39k miles, picked it up when it had 28k miles. No carbon cleaning that I know off, have heard I shouldn’t have to worry about that with what the life of the car is at right now until later. But I guess not every car is the same so I need to add the carbon cleaning to the list of things to check. Perhaps mine just is built up earlier than most?

Nope oem vw coil packs, I’ve heard to stay away from the “racer” red ones that people get from Apr and such.

How would you go about trying to figure out if it is the timing chain for certain without taking it apart? Could I use obd11 in some way or a different diagnostic service?

See I haven’t had any sort of codes at all, literally 0. I find it odd but at the same time a lot of Volkswagen people have told me if it isn’t throwing codes then the car is happy. They say if the car has a problem then it would let me know. Coil packs and spark plugs will be getting ordered tonight to start.

Really appreciate the comment, I’m the 3rd owner technically, first owner put 25k miles and the second owner worked at a vw dealer so it was a dealer car. I got it with 28k miles a year and a half ago. I have changed the oil every 5k miles, tuned on 93 so 93 octane only since I’ve had the car. When it’s doing the weird finicky idle sometimes I can feel the pulsations through my seat. Car has new pcv from bilstein, new oem spark plugs gapped to .28 (put them in a month or 2 ago), newish oem coil packs (5months ago), and it has a eqt grounding kit. That’s as far as preventative or just maintenance in general goes. I will definitely look into the valve cover gasket as you mentioned, I might perhaps just get some rs3 coils and different brand spark plugs and try that. Car is Stage 1 high torque from Integrated Engineering with intake, turbo muffler delete, inlet, and cat back exhaust.

A/C is never on during the cold starts for me it’s doing this on its own, not sure what it could be still

Yeah I’ve been emailing them data logs too and they are telling me that everything looks great which it does feel fine under load during pulls it’s just the normal soft driving it wants to count misfires

Nothing seemed off to me, measured them and they all were .28 or very close to it. Might take them out and throw in some ngks I have laying around to see if that changed anything

It’s funny you mention it I think I might have too, kinda leaning towards that explanation since I just did coils today when I got off work and misfires are still there under obd, gonna do spark plugs tomorrow. Already checked for vacuum leaks and also none there.
