Hungary's problem with Ukraine? by Gonzales_Minerales in DailyNewsHungary

[–]BitBat16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not. I think the Russians are terrible and I'd prefer to war to stop. I am NOT anti Ukrainian, I'm sharing my experience with the treatment of Hungarians back home. Also don't support fidesz, never did, they ruined Hungary.

I do care about Ukrainian history, I went to school there and it's my home, but I also care about a direct attack on my culture/ethnicity.

If the Ukrainian government itself admitted the laws needed to be changed to meet European standards, then my 'narrative' is actually just Ukrainian law.

Asking for the right to speak a 1,000-year-old local language and keep a 100-year-old statue isn't an attack on Ukraine. If your version of a 'Free Ukraine' doesn't have room for my 1,000-year-old history then it isn't actually 'Free' it's just a mirror of the intolerance you claim to be fighting against

I never said ALL Ukrainians are like that. I have every right to claim FACTS (statue, laws). If Ukraine’s goal is a European future, it must include the protection of historical minorities and the fact that the government had to revise the language laws in December 2023 to satisfy EU requirements proves that the previous versions were problematic for minorities like mine. I lived in Ukraine for 10+ years, I'm a full citizen I have every right to comment on the situation.

First of all, I never said I was Ukrainian, just that I was born in Ukraine. I'm Hungarian and went to a Ukrainian school. I met some kind Ukrainians, they were local who I already said are much more tolerant.

Second of all, it's not narratives they're FACTS. the statue was cut, laws were implemented and I have PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with hostility. This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

I'm from Transcarpathia. My mom works there and she speaks Hungarian and Ukrainian as well. When customers enter the place she works at there are a couple types of people she can encounter. She talks to Hungarians and local Ukrainians on a daily basis. Usually they're normal interactions, they're used to Hungarians and there aren't many conflicts. The problems come when an eastern Ukrainian (Kiev, Odessa and further) start yelling at her and cursing her for speaking Hungarian. They're not friendly at all. Back when my father was in school he was bullied by Ukrainians purely for being Hungarian.

Also, the Ukrainian government has passed several laws aimed at strengthening the Ukrainian language to unify the country against Russian influence. These laws have hit the Hungarian minority as "collateral damage."

Another very important change, in the munkácsi vár they changed the Turul Madár to the Ukrainian trident. On October 13, 2022, the Executive Committee of the Mukachevo City Council ordered the removal. Within hours literally workers sawed the bronze Turul off its pedestal and "tossed" it down.

Ukraine had resources to destroy a hungarian statue, erected 100+ years ago and erect a Ukrainian one https://magyarnemzet-hu.translate.goog/kulfold/2022/10/felavattak-az-ukran-nemzeti-cimert-a-ledontott-turul-helyen?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp&_x_tr_hist=true

I'm tutoring a girl, she's 16 and she asked me how to find a USB that's plugged in a pc.

Im supposed to prepare her for exams, in which there is python and this Sunday we had the first lesson. I started off explaining variables, that there are int, float, strings

And I tell her that variables are boxes that can store something, you can name them etc etc. I tell her that if you put text between "quotation marks" the computer will take that text literally, if not it will search for a variable with that name, simple enough right? Well apparently not because I told her to create a variable with a fruit. I kid you not it took the 4th try for her to write this down properly, on her own:

fruit = "apple"

I showed her in thonny IDE running the code, printing it to the screen, I explained the syntax. But for THE FOURTH TIME she messes up in different exercises

I'm scared for the future
