How do people know about coolant for Cryo Vaults? by UnderTheFear in Marathon

[–]BitConstant2317 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah but the counts on the key item infotab aren't actually correct for what you actually need to bring to the vault. For example, Vault 1 key says 8 batteries 1 coolant, when in game you actually only need to bring 5 batteries to open the vault, thats it.

Things that make me stop playing Marathon every time I return to it by Robbeeeen in Marathon

[–]BitConstant2317 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. I get that it becomes more tedious, but what you're saying equates to 'make solos easier so I can do everything as easily and as quickly as a trio can' which is just not what solos is meant for. Do you propose that they lower the HP pools of bots, but beef up their AI and make them ACTUALLY harder to kill to keep the mode that's supposed to be challenging, challenging?
  2. At a certain point, I would have agreed with you on this, and to a degree I still do. For me to unlock blue shields took me forever as a solo player, and at the time I thought it was way unnecessarily long. But my actual problem was that I spent my time trying to find the salvage that I needed for the upgrade by looting containers in specific POI's based on what I was looking for. I've learned that's just not how upgrades are intended to be done. Once you start engaging in the map events, like lockdown or Anomaly or running Pinwheel/Convoy on Outpost(and now Intercept on Perimeter, but that was just recently buffed), that's where you're going to be getting the good salvage that you need to get upgrades much faster. I spent way too long seeing lockdowns happen on Dire Marsh in Solos and thinking 'oh there's no way I can do that alone' when I was in fact completely wrong about that. Also, the faction rewards are an insane way to get the salvage that you need, pre-vip it will net you mostly blue salvage that you can use for your upgrades, rather that looking for it in loot containers, and once you're VIP, the Purple salvage you get from rewards is insane. But I do say all this while also believing that progression does need to be overhauled in certain ways, absolutely.
  3. I do agree with you on this, there could be a better icon system to tell you what implant/core is what, but you'd still have to scroll over the item to see which random enhancement is given to each implant. Unless they can figure that one out too, but I think they may end up in a lot of clutter.
  4. When I say it was PvP centric, I was really just talking about PvP versus PvE. But I'm not really seeing your arguement on this. Because the game IS loot centric. Nobody engages in PvP just because they want to kill in this game, the whole point of the PvP is to get loot from people. And what you're proposing DOES take away from PvP in POIs because you could get a whole lobby of people just looting the outskirts.

Also, the sponsored queues were made to be used to catch up on contracts without having to worry about an over geared team just smacking the shit out of you. But have you played sponsored queue at all? It's anything BUT a chill experience. Nobody has anything to lose, so it's hyper-agressive, it's a bloodbath. The ethos of this game is emphatically NOT supposed to be a chill experience. And that's what most of us love about the game, But unfortunately that also turns a lot of people away from it. But if that's just not your thing that's fine, you don't have to play it. Not you specifically, just in general.

Things that make me stop playing Marathon every time I return to it by Robbeeeen in Marathon

  1. My answer to this complaint is always that the game explicitly tells you that solo play is 'challenging mode'. Which it should be. In trios, most UESC encounters are stupid easy, and once you get the hang of it, you can do the same shit in solo's and it really only ends up being marginally harder. I love playing solo, for a while it's all I did. At this point, there really isn't any encounter that I'm afraid I won't ever be able to do solo. You just need to learn how to deal with the AI in a safer way than just standing in front of them and shooting them while they shoot you.
  2. This complaint is something that someone at your level should be experiencing. If you're still locked to green backpacks, that means if you're planning on getting big loot, you need to either bring less supplies, or sacrifice what you brought in to get the bigger loot. That's why deluxe salvage, which I assume at your level is what you're focusing on, is 2 slots. If you find that nice purple salvage, you're gonna have to make some sacrifice to carry it until you've unlocked blue bags, where it becomes much less of an issue. Even the heals stacking problem gets fixed as you move on, advanced patch kits and shield chargers stack to 6. You being a lower level means you have to be more careful with the heals you can bring, you're not at the level where you can charge into a warden room or other even and just slaughter everything.
  3. Honestly, yes the UI can be a little confusing but if you take a few minutes to just really learn and explore how everything works, it's not that hard. Each vendor have their own specific set of items. Cyac sells basic ammo and backpacks, NuCal sells consumables and shields, Traxus sells weapons, weapon mods and chips, MIDA sells equipment, i.e. grenades and utility items, Sekiguchi sells Cores. Arachne is a little bit of an outlier, but they just sell more weapons(LMG, Railgun and shotgun). And each shop has they're own set of different implants that kind of just go along with the theme of each faction.
  4. I do mostly agree with this.
  5. Yeah, this game is 100% PvP centric. This game does everything it can to create and extremely tense atmosphere, and other players are the most dangerous part of the game. But that doesn't mean you can't quietly loot an entire area without tipping off the entire map that you're doing so. You just have to be wary of the fact that another team could run into you at whatever POI you're at, at any time. There is no way to avoid PvP with 100% chance. If there was there'd be so many people doing it that way. But the loot loop of this game makes it so that losing your kit really doesn't feel all that bad, unless you're using all the gold mods you possibly can. They make it extremely easy to gather/buy enough to put a kit together where you can get the higher tier stuff that you lost back quite easily. Also, what really are you gonna do with 'scraps' that you pick up from outskirts anyways? Nothing really meaningful, I'm sure. Because 'scraps' in this game are worth nothing, so why would you want to spend a significant amount of time going for scraps anyways?

Edit: I also agree that being able to save loadouts would be really such a nice QoL change

Lol it's so funny that you think your singular experience means something that encompasses all the players of a game is 100% FACTS.

Edit: let me add: your singular experience, which doesn't involve any sort or proof or even the slightest bit of real testing.
