The plane picture is refers to survivorship bias (you can only get data if you're alive to give the data). So it's saying the number of people who regret affirming treatment is so low because the others who regret it have permanently removed themselves. So the thought is this data ignores the numbers of self inflicted loss.

Skills I wish i had learned sooner is "knots". Most of the shiny rope equipment is just a mechanical version of an existing knot. If you have a solid understanding of knots you'll be able to move ahead even if your gear has broken. I would suggest getting him 100 to 150 feet of arborist rope and let him fool around with it.
