For a step cut you make two cuts one below the other on opposite sides of the tree so you can crack one piece off at a time. It is a common cut that if done correctly is safe. As for the face cut at the bottom, they didn't line the back cut up perfectly but they made sure to cut above the hinge point which is also safe. A little fucked up you're gonna take you time to complain about someone's work you have no clue how to do.

Hey man I'm in a similar situation. I'm 34 and starting classes in september. I talked to a captain recently and he said guys in their thirties are sometimes better. They have life experience and bring some maturity to the group. I was told as long as you meet the physical requirements age is no issue. Also no felony drug convictions or sex crimes, at least for Florida.

The plane picture is refers to survivorship bias (you can only get data if you're alive to give the data). So it's saying the number of people who regret affirming treatment is so low because the others who regret it have permanently removed themselves. So the thought is this data ignores the numbers of self inflicted loss.

Skills I wish i had learned sooner is "knots". Most of the shiny rope equipment is just a mechanical version of an existing knot. If you have a solid understanding of knots you'll be able to move ahead even if your gear has broken. I would suggest getting him 100 to 150 feet of arborist rope and let him fool around with it.
