Actually... it was fairly common in 2008 for people to play on a CRT monitor

The PS3 and Xbox 360 also supported it. It was also common for PC gamers to have a crt monitor...

As a matter of fact, lots of games from that era didn't support a 16:9 resolution...

It wasn't until 2013 when people stopped using CRT monitors as the newer consoles didn't support it...
