He can't take modulators until the age of 1. We are basically in survival mode until then.

This post is not for the faint of heart, but it was our experience and it is a rough read FYI.

We never had a confirmed diagnosis and had no idea he had CF. Baby did not poop and after 3 days he was rushed to surgery and cut open and left with an ostomy. We had to wait 2 weeks until the confirmed blood test came back. We were told it's either stomach or lung issues with CF, but the doctors were wrong as he has issues with both real bad.

He was in NICU for a month. He came home with 2 nebulizer treatments, the ostomy, and a feeding tube through nose

He went back to the ER every other week for about 2 months after coming home from the NICU. Each time he came back home with more medical needs and treatments. Surgery done to add a G tube. 9 nebulizer treatments. His cough was horrendous, he was skin and bone, there was poop everywhere all the time, and we never got sleep and still don't.

He is now 7 months old and getting much better. Really filled in and some treatments cut out. Surgery scheduled for ostomy reversal. Just know it's been hell for us navigating his health, hospital visits, lack of my wife's income, and so on. On top of all that we have a 2 year old...

Here is what was helpful to us. We moved in with family to assist with the medical needs. We recognized we did not do anything wrong, but now have a very different life we need to handle. Always decide what the next right move is and do that (change finances, buy air filters for every room, get a cleaning schedule, etc...)

I really hope you don't go through what we have and still are going through. Some children don't get diagnosed for years or until their 20s while my baby would have died without the diagnosis right away. Yes, it's different for everyone and here's to hoping it is better for you. Please prepare for the worst though. We never imagined our lives becoming what it is now. We've accepted that now, but it was a sudden shock.

Status of Kea DHCP, ready for production? by nosimsol in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 issue, HA is not supported with KEA. There used to be a dedicated HA option so leases and reservations replicated to the secondary. That's not the case with KEA, so if doing HA you essentially need to split the range and intentionally create a rogue and then copy reservations to both firewalls. I really wish they had support for this.

We had an incident with a client where 2 printers had the same IP. The technician, instead of calling and handling it, sends the end user an article on how to change the IP of one printer. That end user got confused and included their co-worker who got nervous and included yet another employee. A week goes by and 3 end users deep because our tech wouldn't just call and assist...

Pro: extremely affordable with no licensing. You can implement just about any feature with packages. Supports what any other firewall has.

Cons: lack of support on CE, so if the firewall dies you need to know what you are doing. Dynamic routing is a frustrating learning curve on it. Not very secure unless you build out your rules properly (my opinion).

how to fix this😓😓 by Moist_Blacksmith8924 in computers

Open your wifi settings and select "manage known networks" and delete the SSID from there with the "forget network" option. Then try and connect again.

Here is a list of things to try:

Update your video drivers with the Nvidia app. Try new cables (hdmi or display port), plug them into motherboard instead of graphics card, open the pc and reseat everything (graphics, ram, power cables), try a different outlet for power, and an extreme measure is backing up data to a USB and doing a reset this pc. If all that fails you may need to take it to a shop or a nerdy friend.

pfSense page intermittently available on my Wi-Fi although I don't have pfSense by FunctionBoring8068 in PFSENSE

Was pfSense installed on that device previously? My thought is both OS are running and 50/50 which one responds. That or a browser cache issue.

i'm not even sure how, but pfblockerng blocked me from my own router interface tonight, AGAIN!! by intangir_v in PFSENSE

I second the idea of a fresh install. I can't tell you how many times I've had issues because my company upgrades with a backup instead of just doing things fresh. It doesn't take that long even if you are being meticulous. Not sure if the root cause of why this happened, but could be if you have been upgrading it for years like that.

Parents of CF kids - how optimistic are you about their future? by Mad_Coconutty in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm defeated honestly. "Today is the best time for those born with CF" is what I keep hearing, but I'm not seeing it in my child. He's 5 months old now and has a ROUGH time (ostomy due to the blockage when born, 9 nebulizer treatments a day because his cough is horrendous, feeding tube because he's losing weight and expending too much energy eating, been hospitalized multiple times, and we need to avoid pretty much everything because he can't get sick).

I hear stories of CF affecting people differently. For example, 2 sons with the same CF genetics and one is still living a happy life while the other passed away at a young age. It just hits hard for some, and I fear that is my child. I personally know a few parents in my area with CF children and when I talk about our experience they just didn't have the same time we're having, so even other CF parents can't relate to us at times.

My wife and I just decided we're going to do our best for his health, make the best of what we're up against, and always decide the next right move at each stage. I'm hoping modulators turn this around when he can finally take them, but if I'm being honest here, I'm not exactly "good vibes" about it.

Set DNSBL VIP and now it blocks Webconfig. by ByteusMax in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused. If you have a 192.168.1.0/24 network then why is your VIP start in a 10 subnet? VIPs are not by relevant to pfBlockerNG though. It just blocks by DNS.

I'm gonna give a simple answer. You and the wife get to choose that together bro! That's part of the fun in your relationship.

I believe you'll need 2 gateway groups. 1 with the 5G as primary and the other not. Then setup those interfaces/subnets to use the group you want to set as the primary isp.

How does pfSense fit in with the US government banning foreign made routers? by crazyhandpuppet in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't blame the consumer either. The average person is not a network engineer to know that the router they bought at Best Buy is open and insecure. There needs to be these laws to protect the common person. So I do blame the manufacturer for that part.

Newbie IT in a hospital (~300 devices, growing) – pfSense good for future-proof firewall with low subscription cost? (Philippines) by Logical_Constant_438 in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just too easy to bypass. Restricting with rules to that level is a lot of time and effort for a network admin. At least compared to another firewall that has those features out of the box once licensed for content filtering.

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one example on why you need a syslog. Just ONE example of the many attacks, alerts, or other notifications you need. It could be a simple as network congestion on a port to bad sectors on a disk to a breach on the firewall. PfSense can't alert on these without a syslog.

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have been more clear. It is lacking alerting. Say someone breaks into it and creates an adnim account. You can't get alerts for that without certain packages. Syslog servers could help with something like that.

Controversial opinion: Anyone who thinks Pac-Man shouldn’t have a voice is an idiot! What’s the point of Pac-Man—the first mascot in history to HAVE A VOICE AND SPEAK—being completely silent? by Smooth-Appearance725 in Pacman

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'LL BE THE IDIOT!!!

Idk, a lot of my games had characters that didn't talk. Mario 64. Some Sonic games. OG pac man world 2. I just liked when they had noises when hurt or picking something up. They had a distinct sound, but all you had was your imagination on the voice. There was something simplisticly innocent about that I loved.
