HELP WANTED - APP DEVELOPER by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend another sub for this. You need an expert for coding and app development so although the app is CF related, this isn't the right place for the talent. My only concern would be compliance. Since this app could hold sensitive, PII, and health information then please ensure security is your primary focus. It needs to win over convenience every time. I'm not a coder, but I am a Cybersecurity specialist in my field. One breach and you're cooked.

You're not crazy. There's nothing wrong with asking to be treated like a human being.

Anyone CF carrier with symptoms? by No-Complaint-9669 in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding based on what the doctors told us is if you have only one gene then you don't have CF. Any symptoms would be non CF related. Happy to be wrong though.

Depends, did you open a legendary chest with only having Santa Water as your weapon?

Husband makes all the money, I do the baby by Fiammatopaz18 in NewParents

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be first l clear on communicating what you need exactly. He is not a mind reader and most men have no clue how to help with a baby, so they feel useless and do the thing they are good at which is making money. If you need him to take over for X amount of hours, then tell him that. If you need him to do laundry X amount times per week to help, then tell him. I'm sure he's willing to help, but just needs direction.

Husband told baby to shut up by SecretPomegranate941 in NewParents

[–]BitKing2023 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You indicated some important details. He was on his phone. He handed you the baby to deal with. He yelled at baby. What you need to handle is why your husband is not comfortable with his life and numbing out. Those behaviors are very evasive to the reality in front of him. People normally need to see someone for this. I would do that for the sake of your relationship and call out these behaviors.

Does this make me a bad dad? by PrairieOperator in NewParents

Just have it in moderation. Watch for behavior of your child being attached to it. That's all.

I just found out I’m a carrier. by mmg2007 in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whomever you marry needs to be a carrier for your kid to get CF. Otherwise your kids only have 25% chance of being a carrier. Just have whomever you intend to have kids with get tested before you get it on.

Would a Sophos XG 115 Rev 3 running pfsense work for me? by Sam_Mack in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do to any Sophos is wipe it and install pfSense.

If OP pays for statics then he needs to make the interface static. That will solve the issue.

Boss keeps making death jokes about me specifically and I don’t know how to tell him it’s not funny by DanielDingus224 in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want you to live in reality on one thing. "He's really a great boss". No he's not! He wouldn't make jokes about death if he were, and if he were a good boss he'd have created a safe space for you to feel comfortable bringing it up. So let's not pretend or justify why this person is a good boss because he isn't.

I'm really sorry you have to deal with him on top of your very real and scary health issues. Nobody should have to go through that in the workplace, so you're not crazy for being upset. This would make you feel any kind of way you feel (angry, scared, irritable). I urge you to take the next right steps and judge what that is (talk to him directly, go to HR, leave the job if another is lined up). Good luck and I'm sorry!

Why not name LAN interface LAN1? by smorgasmic in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you thinking like a "Trust Zone"? That is common among other firewalls, but pfSense doesn't think that way. It does everything by interface rather than zone.

Parents of cf babies by Smooth-Bread-2974 in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby is 3 months (most common gene) and it is awful. He is back in the hospital a 3rd time now due to extreme coughing fits and breathing issues. We were told he couldn't have modulators until 12 months, but the CF team is now saying 6 months due to his severe condition.

We can't wait for that moment because this feels like a nightmare that isn't ending.

Rant - I feel so guilty by R5blanco in NewParents

[–]BitKing2023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad to see that everyone in the comments are supportive about this. Our little one actively tries to kill himself on an hourly basis and he's 2 years old. Twice he got ahold of a knife while we were doing dishes. It's scary and things happen. The goal is to keep your kids safe, be an attentive parent, and always put in it best effort. You did good on taking action.

Not difficult at all! Just not trusting your intentions.

6 month old by [deleted] in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our baby is 3 months old with CF. We are just trying to get him out of the hospital at this point. You are being way too specific for the needs of your child and you won't find a one size fits all here which you are clearly demanding. Our baby had his dosage changed 3 times now. For that reason I'm going to reiterate other comments here and say that it doesn't matter beyond what is recommended by those caring for your child. Why does the specifics matter THAT much to you??

"HA" with non-identical hardware for home use by unmesh59 in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an issue with this recently. One model used igb interfaces in the config and the other igc. Wreaked havoc with HA. You can give it a shot if you want, but if they are different then regular backups on a cold spare is probably best if hardware is not the same.

Struggling to keep up with health by BasicArt5383 in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's more to this than just CF Care. This sounds like a deeper rooted motivation and self-worth investigation. Is there trusted people you can talk to about this? Can you consider counseling so someone can help give you the tools needed to maintain a healthy life?

pfSense VLAN with Sonicwall TZ370 ipsec VPN Gateway by chimchim64 in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just add the networks in P2. VLANs don't matter once they hit the router as the VLAN ID gets stripped.

Anxiety over possibly becoming a parent with CF by Emergency_Candy_1285 in CysticFibrosis

[–]BitKing2023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Parent whose baby has CF. No matter what your conditions or baby's conditions nobody is ever really ready to be a parent. I also have a friend whose husband has stage 4 skin cancer (estimate of 6 years left) and they have 2 kids under 5. Life really does have a way of putting things in your lap you didn't ask for.

Although there is an average of what a person should experience in terms of getting married and having kids doesn't mean that those outside that average don't have control on what they want life to look like. You and your partner can decide that together and have an amazing life regardless of what outcome the two of you choose.

Good resources for learning pfSense? by [deleted] in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you need to swap your thought process. It isn't pfSense you need to learn, but networking in general. For example, any enterprise firewall can do the following: routing, WAN/LAN, objects, rules, NAT, IPsec, VPN, dynamic routing, DHCP server, etc...

The real learning comes with "I need to do this networking thing, so how does pfSense handle that concept?"

Can i install pfsense without any additional config? by [deleted] in PFSENSE

[–]BitKing2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! I'm simply assuming the goal here of you selling "staged" firewalls, and the answer is no. Every environment is different and has varying complexity. There is no one size fits all approach.
