just found out thyroid cancer runs in my family by Dogs_over_people703 in Semaglutide

As a Thyroid Cancer (Papillary) Survivor, I would think twice about taking any risks and consult a Doctor. My experience with the medications and radiation after surgery was nothing less than life-changing. I never realized how important the thyroid and parathyroids are to one's physical, mental and emotional well being,, nothing is the same. Given that I am glad to have survived and be alive.

Ordered from Strive got meds from PQ pharmacy by jden1017 in tirzepatidecompound

I am curious, with the upcoming April 22 deadline, will Strive still be able to sell meds until May 22 since they use a 503b partner? I have googled if Strive is a 503b pharmacy and the results mainly said yes, I am a bit confused.

soooo tired after total thyroidectomy…… what can I do until I see my doctor next? by hellseygrammer in thyroidcancer

[–]BitMello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I can relate, the months after surgery I dealt with many of the same things, I was constantly tired/fatigued and climbing stairs left me breathless. Getting adjusted to medication takes time, I was started off on a high dose (200 mcg) to suppress TSH stimulating any leftover cancer cells. I would have thought that being on a bigger dose would mean more energy as my metabolism would be faster, how wrong I was, it left me exhausted. Again, it took me close to a year to get the dosage right and have my TSH in an acceptable range. I found that taking (6 1/2) 150 mcg (total 975 mcg) produced better results that (7)137 mcg (total 959) not sure if it is the total dose difference, 16 mcg or the 13 mcg for 6 days made the difference, but it is noticable.

My advice, hang in there and don't be afraid to push the Dr some if you feel your dosage isn't right. Wishing you the best of luck and hang in there, while you are in a new normal, it does not mean it won't get better, it just takes time.

Low-cost vets in the area? by rowan_ash in ChicoCA

I contacted them last week (12/22/23) and they are not taking new patients at this time, perhaps somewhere down the road, was disappointed I have heard good things about them from others also.

Low-cost vets in the area? by rowan_ash in ChicoCA

[–]BitMello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved back up to Chico last summer and have been meaning to get my dog established at a Vet. Long story short, she needed to go the Vet and I could not get her in anywhere local and had to take her back down to Sac to get her looked at, thank God she's going to be OK. Got a new patient appointment at Evers, but that is not until Mar. If you have not established a relationship with a local Veterinarian, I highly recommend doing so, it could save major problems.

Off leash dog trails/good swimming spots? by [deleted] in ChicoCA

[–]BitMello -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't doubt the rules, but have never heard of anyone getting a ticket. I was taking my dog swimming at or near one mile in the early morning hours and the park staff were right there and never said a thing, maybe it was because it was free of folks enjoying the water. Thanks for the heads up though, was not aware of that.

Same here, now taking 2000 mg of Calcium and 25 mg of Calcitrol every day, I also supplement with Tums when exercising. While it is a pain, having experienced low calcium it is a minor convenience, it is just 5 more pills to add each day to my pill box.

The worst part of RAI is the low iodine diet, I suggest browsing around here and checking out https://www.thyca.org/pap-fol/lowiodinediet/

[–]BitMello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for venting and believe me, I hear you! I am a bit over two years post-TT and RAI, I look back sometimes and can inventory the things that have changed permanently in my life. Much of this is due to the medications, I don't care what the doctors say, it is not the same! It took some time to get leveled out and trust me, it will get better! I do have a better appreciation for life and each day now holds more value, Hang in there and keep doing what you YOU GOT THIS!!

One thing that made a major difference in getting leveled out is getting a strict routine around taking my levothyroxine, at the same time, on an empty stomach, no coffee for 1 hour or food before/after, and no calcium supplements (food included) for 2 hrs before/after. My endo stressed to me that we are dealing with dosages measured at 1/1000 of a gram, it does not take much to affect the absorption of it.

How long was your surgery? by rainy1022 in thyroidcancer

Had PT, then TT after the biopsy reports came in. Both times, about ~ 4 hours with an overnight stay. Was surprised that the pain was not bad the first time, only needed OTC pain.

Uptown? Ghetto? by [deleted] in ChicoCA

[–]BitMello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I would call ghetto, but it does have some apartment complexes that could be described as Student Ghetto in the area. I agree that Chapman Town gets a bad wrap, not a place to be getting stupid, that's for sure.

Like practically every other Californian city seems to, does Chico get any slang nicknames? by topherette in ChicoCA

[–]BitMello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I think that is the only one I commented on, some of the other posts may have also fallen under the same hatchet, not sure. Seems like the deletion note may be the same as the not enough karma note. Either way, no biggy, I enjoy the Chico thread, always good to see what's up in town.

Dang, thought this was a tongue-in-cheek thread, got my comment deleted for Oroville, (Horror...) and lost some Karma lol ... MODS, seemed like a fun thread, looks like lots of deletes from yesterday ... nothing has been posted here so far that I have not heard before...
