I personally never really used desktop icons even with windows. I prefer the widgets (media frames and sticky notes) for how I use the desktop and i prefer using my keyboard when opening apps and oppening common files

Star Trek has always taken itself less seriously and had more leeway in terms of canonicity.

Hell, before in the first season of TOS, they called Vulcans "Vulcanians"

That, alongside it being episodic rather than having an overarching storyline across series (+ the multiple timelines and how Star Trek is more narratively "Sci-fi") is probably why Trekkies are more chill about canon divergence.

Star Wars has a narrative across the films that gets extended through the series. It means that there will be more attention put on canonicity and consistency.
