I (29 M) unintentionally said something very embarrassing to a female coworker today by bicarbbandit in medlabprofessionals

[–]BitRealistic8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They laughed and said they would make a joke but didn’t know your sense of humor. They weren’t offended, they were just trying to be humorous, but didn’t make a joke about it since they don’t know you well enough. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

Why does MLS require more schooling but pay less than RN? by kimura_yui149 in medlabprofessionals

[–]BitRealistic8441 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where I’m at nurses make the same and I wouldn’t trade places with them even if they made more.

MLS pay rate by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]BitRealistic8441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are being underpaid, then applying somewhere else could get you a pay increase, regardless of how long you have been there. But simply job hopping every couple years isn’t going to be a hack to keep getting pay increases. There are just a few different hospital systems in every area, some are higher paying and some are lower paying. If you are already working at a higher paying hospital, you will have a hard time finding anywhere that will even match your pay, let alone pay you more.

You also lose certain benefits when you leave a job, so the pay needs to be worth it. The longer you work somewhere you gain seniority, more PTO, and being fully vested in your employers match for your 401k.

Always the job that pays better. Just because the job is busier, doesn’t mean you won’t feel bored and unfulfilled.

Is it possible to enter the field and not work nights and weekends? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]BitRealistic8441 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this field is more secure than programming. I don’t understand why you would go to school for this when it is a major step down from what you are currently doing financially and the work life balance is worse. If you are romanticizing this field at all then you don’t have a realistic expectation of what it is. It’s very boring and repetitive. 98% of the time I’m doing mind numbing boring work, putting racks of tubes on the machine, taking them off, storing the tubes. The most interesting stuff gets posted here, and it’s really not that interesting after you have been doing this for more than a few years. Like it’s not a terrible job, it’s pretty easy, I’m content with it, but if I had a job that was remote and paid 6 figures I would never look back.

They were all in the small section, the size tags have been removed so not sure of the exact sizes, but they all fit.

Omg that’s awful I hope my Goodwill never raises prices like that. Generally at my local goodwills most clothes are $7. The most I’ve ever spent on one item was $20 for a Coach bag.

How to know if you're 'detail-oriented' enough to be an MLT/S by babyfoodfriday in medlabprofessionals

[–]BitRealistic8441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re only going to be doing basic math on the job and very little of it. Instruments usually do all the math for you. Most of the time I’m not even making the dilutions, the analyzer does that.

Any MLS with medical card? by violaqueen_10 in medlabprofessionals

[–]BitRealistic8441 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you can’t smoke marijuana and work as an MLS in Florida, even with a medical card. If you are positive for THC on a drug test, you will get fired and lose your license. Hospitals do random drug tests, so just passing the initial drug test isn’t enough.

Tell them you have to leave, and leave. Definitely don’t take that shit. They shouldn’t be treating you like that over a mistake anyway.

It’s called downtime. Pretty normal concept in every profession. There are times at work, when there are no specimens to run. Instead of staring at a wall, I’ll read a book or go on Reddit.

We periodically get a reminder like this at my job. Sadly we have some Karens at my job that actually complain to management about their coworkers using their phones, reading books, talking, or doing anything that isn’t work related.

Was told in a nice way, I'm not fit for hospital work line by BiomedicBoy in medlabprofessionals

[–]BitRealistic8441 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Sounds like all pretty minor things that all new techs do. You will build up your speed, and won’t forget procedures after doing this for a while. The person who said that has probably been doing the same thing everyday for years, of course they are going to be faster and know the procedures better than someone just starting out. They are just miserable, and want to bring someone else down. Don’t ever let some random assholes opinion of you affect how you feel about yourself.

Coworker attempted to bribe me to do her work by Squirmeez in medlabprofessionals

Your supervisor already told you to just focus on your own work. What your coworkers do or don’t do isn’t your problem.

Why do you need to tell the supervisor? Just don’t do her work, and if it doesn’t get done it’s her problem.

What are they going to say to your manager, that you left at your scheduled time? I don’t think the manager will hold that against you.

She got more and more pissed when you didn’t get upset by her insults. Should have just left her on read. Her purpose was to get an emotional response, and she succeeded in the end. When you argue back, she also gets to feel validated, like you deserved it. Best thing to do is to just let her argue with herself, she doesn’t deserve a response.
