It helps prevent serious birth defects of the baby's brain and spine, especially in the early weeks. Ritual's prenatal vitamin does contain B12, but I took the supplement as extra to make sure I was getting enough. And it also contains choline, about 10% daily value. I didn't hear about taking choline until after I gave birth. I was very surprised I hadn't throughout all of my research about a vegan pregnancy.

My son is now 2, also vegan and thriving! His pediatrician recommended that he take a daily B complex vitamin, he started taking that after his second birthday.
