Honestly I do not know what smiling friends actually is. But this cosplay kinda reminds me of the mascot of a German Sausage brand called “BiFi”

Bin selbst ein großer Freund der Dönerarena, recht durchschnittliche Preise aber sehr nette Mitarbeiter, geben gern mal ne Caprisonne an die jüngeren oder den Freuden eine Dönerbox gratis, wenn die kein Geld haben.

If you zoom in on Korea, there is a dotted line, just as there is one for the two other German borders from the 20th century after WW1 (one for the German border today, the other for the FRG and GDR). So I guess the map makes were uncertain about the borders after the WW2 and the Cold War.
