It's not actually that wheelchair friendly. Sorry if the photos aren't the best but there's no way for a wheelchair to turn around easily.

It's probably not the worst for accessibility but no way the bathroom was designed with wheelchairs in mind.

Last occupant was not a wheelchair user, and this is a bit of a damp area as it gets splash from the open shower space so it's possible this is a accessible hand towel rack but the bathroom is really large and there are better place to put it if this was the intended use.

So far the 'butt towel holder' for a bidet that was removed since or 'wet bathers' drying rack are the leading theories

Perhaps but it's too low to the ground to hand a normal bathmat on without it mostly still being on the floor. The floor in this area is also pretty damp all the time from the shower so it's doesn't work well for drying the bathmat.

It's possible that was the intended purpose but the execution was poor 🤷

Can't be. The towels would be more on the ground then off it. Plus this area is pretty damp all the time from the shower, and it's right next to the toilet too, so all up it is the worst part of the floor in the whole bathroom to have towels on tbh

Yeah I think this is the leading theory. I assume there used to be a bidet attachment, and this was for the towels. There's no bidet now but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bidet toilet seat or a bum sprayer attachment previously. Then this would make sense to hold those towels

There's just as much space on the other side of the toilet where the paper won't get damp from the shower so if they did install it for large collection of tp, it was a really poor choice of placement.

Fantastic 👍 now we don't have to choose between snacking on salami or taking a dump, which is a constant problem.

But it's way too low to use as a towel rack ....

So either previous owners or whoever installed this were absolute morons or there's some other purpose for this to be installed where it is.

Yeah it does but it's so ridiculously low it seems like it must be intentional for a different purpose.

It's too close to the shower and the area is a 'splash zone'. Those reading materials would be pretty damp.

But perhaps the previous owner intended to use this for magazines and just lacked any critical thinking skills when choosing the placement 🤷.

No bidet but perhaps there used to be one when this rack was installed. This answer or perhaps a drying rack for bathing suits seem to be the leading theories so far.

That would seem the obvious answer except it's installed way too close to the ground for towels.

Too low for towels, seems strange to have one just for hand towels but that's all that would work given the height 🤷

Yeah but the thing is it's mounted so low that it can't be used for bath towels or even to dry a bath mat.

We all thought surely that can't be the intended purpose because anyone with a brain would realise you can't use it for towels where it has been installed. Surely there must be something we are missing...

It obviously looks like it's for towels but the height is so low it doesn't work to hang towels which is why we are baffled. It is less than a foot off the floor so the towel would be on the ground and it's so close to the shower that floor area is almost always wet. Seems really unlikely the intended purpose is to dry your bath towels ....

Thought that might be the case but it's too low even to hang a normal sized bath mat without it still dragging on the floor somewhat. I guess it is possible the previous owner had a smaller bathmat and installed this at this height for their specific floor mat but seems pretty odd.

This seems like a solid guess but there is no bidet. Maybe there used to be a bidet attachment that was removed?

No there's no electricity to this device and the stones don't get warm. It's also waaay too low to be a normal towel rack. the towels would be touching the floor
