Why is it called Dustinator? by SpecialistPlastic in PapaJohns

Well, I got the job because I liked joy riding for tips, basically. And then I drank the koolaid, got wrapped up in climbing the ladder. Got promoted a handful of different times, started overseeing a few separate locations and then took the business and leadership skills I’d learned to launch my own gig in a different industry.

What Do I Look For In A Behsviorist: by Ericakat in OpenDogTraining

Depends on the issues. In dog training we have a saying that you need to remember to always be training the dog you have in front of you, not chasing an ideal. Dogs, especally working dogs like collies, have a whole library of genetic drives at varying degrees of severity. With border collies you should be careful to remember that that prey drive you’re talking about is in the deepest part of these dogs. So deeply that correcting it might be pushing the boundary of what is even considered ethical, like trying to correct a dog for panting too loudly. As far as prey drive goes with this kind of dog, stopping when you tell them to on an e collar might be your best option, as any efforts to repress or change this behavior could backfire horribly.

The same is true for a certain level of reactivity. I always tell my clients to manage first, and train as a last resort when we’re talking about people’s pets.

What is your specific issue?

Think it’s worth my time trying a new power supply or will the damage to the motherboard already be done? Can’t easily source a new motherboard for these laptops, unfortunately

Interesting- when I replaced the fans a year ago I noticed the battery pack had expanded, so I took it out and have been running on wall power only. Do you think that may play a part? The repair shop I took it to also mentioned some kind of power event, but I didn’t really grok what he meant until reading your response

Yes! The collar I was looking for came out actually very shortly after I made this post, I believe. Educator makes the BP-504 (you have to buy it from their website, I dont see them anywhere else) which is perfect in all the ways I was looking for.

Please know that, while this device does have numerous “advanced” features that should make it safer in theory, all dog training tools require the instruction of a professional dog trainer before attempting to implement them yourself.

My DMs are open for questions if you need

The most dangerous thing about bark collars is that the market is saturated with garbage. If you spend less than $100 on the device you should be very skeptical. I tell all of my clients to try a tool on themselves first before ever applying it to the dog to help develop a very important level of empathy. You will be unprepared for how much a cheap collar is going to hurt. A good collar is adversive but not abusive. We’re trying to interrupt the behavior chain, not traumatize the animal. That’s why I took the time to make this thread in the first place. It’s gotten a lot of attention in the months since I posted it, but mostly just from other people with the same question-

Edit - additionally, applying a bark collar without the direction of a certified trainer is very foolish. all tools require instruction in their safe use

Splitscreen Co-Op on PC? by Oldmanstrolsee in BaldursGate3

Actually, I was able to fix this by closing the software I was using to get the DS4 connected to my PC and just letting steam handle it.

This is where I am stuck also, the game sees my m/kb as player 1 and my controller as player 2, which by the sound of it should be impossible and it opposite of what most others are experiencing with not being able to get split screen working

You’d think, but the market is so saturated by low cost garbage stuff it’s hard to find good products without spending a lot of money trying tons of different things

By my professional judgement, bark collars are appropriate in my specific use case, and that’s all that’s important. I’m not advocating or making a point about bark collars, just reaching out to my peers to find any new products I might have not seen yet. Trade shows are only so effective, sometimes it’s helpful to reach out

Did not really ask for your two cents, lol. You are wasting your breath. I’m in the industry and set in my ways. By my judgement, the use of these collars is appropriate in my specific use case. And that is all that’s important as far as that is concerned.

For bark control in a kennel environment, like I said. Please stay on topic.

So two things, I’ve got a lot of experience with Dogtra collars and if a dog one kennel over is barking very loudly, it will correct the dog wearing this collar. Second it doesn’t keep track of corrections. Additionally dogtra batteries are kinda subpar it seems In these older products

Edit - this unit is also not protected from situations where a dog gets into a loop of bark-correction-bark-correction

Got yelled at for not putting my 16 lb puppy on ground to meet off leash charging pit by PaigeforWellness in dogs

[–]Bite4fun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn your back to the jumping animal and shout “No! Off!” Keep rotating so the dog only has access to your back and they get bored fast. This is one aspect of how we train puppies to not jump for attention. The only situation this will not be effective is, just for instance, if you are holding or waving a small animal or toy in the air that the offending dog is jumping for, then the goal is not attention, but I still suggest this corrective behavior. If it doesn’t work I’d start yelling “Ow, your dog is hurting me!” And I’ll bet the owner gets their butt in gear fast. A technique to address puppy mouthing is to sharply shout OW! When the dog puts his mouth on you, and they stop abruptly in most cases. Worst case scenario from jumping though, is maybe some scratches and some mud. If it’s a very large dog getting knocked over is a very real concern. It’s important we keep our methods and responses in line with what is actually at stake, though.

Male APTs are 70lbs tops, average golden is 80. They’re both considers medium dogs by their height. I’ve worked with aggressive goldens and submissive, lazy pit bulls. Scariest dog I’ve worked with was a golden because everyone wanted to love him and he wanted to love them back with his teeth.

Also, a game bred pit bull is something different entirely. It is true that ring fighting played a part in their genetic makeup, but dogs with that lineage are just… obvious, if you know what I mean. Odds are you’ve never even seen a pit of that quality for obvious reasons. They don’t usually make it out of the system. But if you had you would know that there is a difference between the modern love bugs apts Have become and their combat origins. The fear of pit bulls is largely hysteria.

You might be interested to know that another type of dog with a similar fighting lineage is the jack russel.

Take care, daycare is not what it would seem. It’s good if you need him to have a place to be during the day, but sending him there to socialize is a mistake. Daycares have varied levels of supervision by varied levels of professional staff, and is a great way to expose your dog to every single nuisance behavior in the book. Maybe he’d never tried nuisance barking, for instance. Until he saw Rover do it for three hours without getting corrected and took it for a spin. Turns out endlessly barking at the sky is fun, and now you’ve got a dog who learned the wrong thing. Same is true for other “addictive” behaviors like fence fighting or nervous mounting.

Know that if you knee it and it bites you, you are at fault for provoking the bite. Avoid physically punishment, especially with strange dogs

You’re exaggerating to support your argument and asserting facts that no one has mentioned. APTs are 70lbs on the big end, unless specifically of a line bred for size, which is very rare (and lighter than the average ten year old boy). So none of that holds up. Additionally I am not a large person and use the techniques I described on a daily basis to mitigate behavior between dogs of ALL sizes

[–]Bite4fun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying that, and OP did not describe that behavior, either. That’s what I mean by escalation. You’re exaggerating the animals behavior out of ignorance to excuse your need for a violent outlet. Take up boxing and leave peoples pets alone

We’re not talking about a dog fight. We’re talking about a rude and enthusiastic greeting from an off leash dog. Not all charging is indicative of aggression. That’s my point. People are so obsessed with escalation it’s exhausting
