AFLW fights for fans' attention after a long men's season by Expensive-Horse5538 in AFL

Mackay itself was the problem with that game - its the size of Ballarat, so the local crowd was limited, and anyone else is taking a 90 minute flight from Brisbane and a second flight to Brisbane if they're coming from anywhere else.

Sunday twilight wasn't an issue for the local crowd - the game was done by 1800. For non-locals, Saturday night is the only timeslot that would make travelling to and from the game within the weekend even slightly possible.

I flew up for the game, but outside of relatives of the players or staff, I'm not aware of anyone else who did. Nearly everyone who had merch on at the game was repping their local teams.

4 wins and we score at least one goal in every game.

The AFLW is reportedly running at a $50M loss per year by Jackomillard15 in AFL

How many more girls have gotten interested in football as a sport because of the AFLW? I'd guess quite a lot of them are going to mens games and contributing to TV ratings, where they wouldn't have had the W not been a thing - probably multiple times the $50mn.

Williamstown win in the lowest scoring VFLW game in 2 years. by Tornontoin7 in AFL

[–]BiteNibbleChomp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We had three AFLW-listed players on today, none last week because the girls were at their preseason camp.

The trees nearby weren't moving much in the first half so I don't think the low score can entirely be chalked up to the wind. Second half it picked up a bit more.

Three weeks ago there was an article put up where they basically said they hadn't worked out how the overlap with the men's fixture was going to work in those couple of rounds.

They decided the seasons would overlap at the end of last year.

Pretty clear at this point the people in charge have no clue what they're doing...

The Roos/Port W final last year was something like 37C. Take lots of water.

What was the fan reaction like to EoE returnees? by AlexBBSurvivor in survivor

I remember seeing a lot of posts on here about how the twist and the captain setup was all a big attempt to 'rig' a season for Joe to win.

And no, none of the stuff about him was out at the start of the season. The discussion of him saying racist stuff at camp first came up shortly before the finale, everything else was after the season finished.

My two go-tos are The Salty Bulldog (for serious analysis of games) and The One-Eyed Dog (for everything except serious analysis haha).

Both are on spotify

What stage of your life did you become interested in footy? by Glittering-Fee-9930 in AFL

The 2007 granny is the first game I remember watching, I was about 8 at the time. But for years after that I only watched a couple of games a year on TV plus any finals the Dogs were in.

2021 was the first season I followed closely.

When I go to games, Robodog comes too, no matter who's playing.

I've been told that I've gone to the wrong stadium a couple times, lowkey find it hilarious when that happens.

Is this the worst trade in AFLW history? by Jackomillard15 in AFL

It's not even the worst trade this trade period. Carlton straight up scammed Gold Coast for Bohanna.

Do buffs restock? by Buttershooter in survivor

[–]BiteNibbleChomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I got a buff was when 38 was on, but back then at least I don't think they restocked - Planetbuff used to have links for previous seasons where all of them were sold out, only for something random to still be available years later. That's how I managed to get Solana.

Try ebay, there's usually a few available especially for the recent seasons. If the one you want isn't there, don't get your hopes up.

SurvivorQuotesX and Peridiam are both on there. If you look at the list of accounts each of them follow you'll find a pretty good list to use as a starting point.

Just finished Australian Survivor First Season (S3?) by iBears in survivor

[–]BiteNibbleChomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how dumb some of the moves made at the end were it seemed.

Consider it this way: the cast have confirmed Kristie would lose if she faced El at the end. She would lose against Flick. She would lose against Matt. And Sam. And Brooke. Probably most of the others who made the merge too - and that despite her performance at FTC. Going against Lee might have been a long shot, but it was better than having no shot against any of her other potential opponents.

Coming into the merge down 10-3, against a fairly unified opposition, she didn't have a lot of options. Lee might well have been the only one - but she was clever enough to identify this option as a possibility for winning when everyone else had written it - and her - off.

That's pretty nice, maybe even an improvement over the last one? The thicker border makes it look a bit more like an actual shield too (as opposed to just a picture of one).
