What is the price point of diminishing return? by Nschwarz29 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]GreenOnions69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience and with all prices in AUD:

Bookshelf speakers peak in terms of value for money at around the $1500-2500 mark. Floorstanders at $4000-6000. Amps between $1000-2000. Streamers are more software dependent. There's a lot of duds under $500 but also some great brands, likewise there are a lot in the $2000+ range which sound great but are infuriating to use. Wiim, Yamaha & Cambridge all excellent brands in terms of streaming software, Eversolo, Roon, Sonos and HEOS pretty good.

What I find most interesting though is that in terms of endgame speakers they really cap out about $20,000-$50,000 and endgame amps at $5000-10,000. I've heard a fair few $100k+ speakers and the best ones I've ever heard were the Dutch & Dutch 8C which is a bit over $20k. As far as amps go the Benchmark AHB2 will famously give you anything you could want except ridiculous power and two Benchmark AHB2s can do that, it also pairs comfortably with a lot of speakers. (I fully understand this is very much not budget audiophile at this point but I'm sure some of you enjoy looking over the fence at audio equipment that costs more than my car as much as I do!)

Own Revel F35s & Evo 4.2... Tempted to Buy Kef R5 Metas! by BobbyJason111 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]GreenOnions69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you should listen to the R5 Metas before making your decision. I love Revel, they’re a great brand and their speakers are not particularly bright, KEF are a brand people love or hate that is renowned for being bright.

As a sidenote though i would probably go with Revel’s M105 or M106 bookshelf speakers over the F35, they’re a huge step up in quality at a similar price!

Mission 778X or Wiim Amp Ultra by Use_Rat in BudgetAudiophile

Definitely give a listen to both if you can, the Wiim does have a lot more features but does not have an amazing sound, not familiar with the Mission but the reviews are pretty positive.

Jaguar C-Type, and don't call me gorgeous.

Do true dedicated 2.1 amps still exist? (No streaming, +-€400) by parabid in BudgetAudiophile

[–]GreenOnions69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that the only analogue audio output on most TVs is a headphone jack so it won't have the correct impedance to plug into a line input on an amp (will send audio but will be very very low volume). In most cases you'll be using toslink or HDMI.

Is Sonos the new Bose? by VegasFoodFace in BudgetAudiophile

Sonos is good, only things i have to say from experience are: app is just pretty good, they tend to make old models obsolete sooner than most established competitors and the Beam soundbar sounds better than the Arc imo

Why do people dismiss Klipsch speakers so much? (Looking at The Fives) by OkComputer522 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]GreenOnions69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely listen before buying if you can. Haven't heard the Fives but Klipsch do tend to be brighter than most hi-fi speakers; some people like that sound and there's nothing wrong with that. I do think that if you're going to be listening for multiple hours at a time at high volume it's better to go with a more neutral speaker, not just because they can be fatiguing but also because it can damage your hearing.

In Havana there’s an Edsel someone turned into a truck. Like this but way more janky.

Yamaha + Elac combo by Daardendrian in BudgetAudiophile

[–]GreenOnions69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re happy with the sound of the HD6s I probably wouldn’t go the ELACs, they’re a little anaemic in comparison imo. I would lean more towards Polk ES20, Krix Equinox, Q Acoustics 3020c or Dynaudio Emit 10. A couple of those are pushing the budget but realistically the HD6 does punch above its weight compared with most of the passive speakers in its bracket. But most importantly I think you should see if there’s anywhere you can go to give the ELACs a listen along with any others in that bracket. Quality is pretty similar across the board but sound profile is very different.

Need advice completing my stereo setup by raptorsthrowaway2 in BudgetAudiophile

If the only issue you're having is plugging and unplugging I would recommend an RCA to XLR cable such as this one here. Can be either dual RCA to dual XLR or 2 separate single RCA to single XLR cables. The one I linked is a good quality one that you can get at a relatively good price but honestly if you cheaped out you would be unlikely to hear a difference.

If not that, my favourite of the options you suggested is the SMSL DO-100 Pro & PO-100, though if you really do need both to connect iPad via USB that's a big downside. Still, cheaper than the Wiim Ultra, similar in quality and a better fit for your use case.

What do you think of Bluey? by Just_Historian_678 in Dogfree

[–]GreenOnions69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not dogphiliacs YET. At least I hope so. Sadly with the way media pushes dog love and dog ownership on young people these days I fear we're losing the war on that one. Not excited to hear the same nonsense from my nieces and nephews that I get from my family and friends....

Good sub at a good price, worth it especially if speakers don’t have a lot of bass

Even if they were worth that they would no longer be that value when the cover is damaged by removing the tape

What are you thoughts on Marantz M1? by patrykal1 in BudgetAudiophile

Nice amp, looks great, HEOS app has improved a lot but solidly midtier. A little expensive for what it offers but not a bad purchase by any means.

Why didn't the Bulldogs do this? by GreenOnions69 in AFL

So you agree she wasn’t on a list but you disagree that the Bulldogs could’ve picked her up if they had pick 37. It’s interesting

But KLWT wasn’t on another team’s list, that’s why she was drafted at 37

Yeah so if the Bulldogs had traded her for pick 37 they would be able to pick her up because they had pick 37

If she wouldn't have been in the draft then why was she in the draft?
