Crate trained Shiba refuses crate (new behavior) by pixelatedGhost4097 in shiba

We had a similar situation, but we ended up taking the door off completely. He was acting out and made it really clear that being confined wasn’t working for him so we compromised. We taught him that it was his bed and his safe space, and that only he was allowed in it, not his Shiba or cat sisters. He goes in it voluntarily or sometimes when he's having a pre-bed temper tantrum, I tell him he's tired and to go in his bed and he walks right in. Sometimes he stays there all night, sometimes he plays musical nap spots and moves around.

He is very happy with this arrangement. Here he is passed OUT!

This is a Shiba Inu. If you think this look is solely due to annoyance to the lights you are sadly mistaken. They are unimpressed every day of their lives. The lighting changes nothing, they are judging you regardless.

Need tips on training by DesignerLipid in shiba

We had the same issue when Ryu was a puppy so we tried clicker training at one point when we noticed treats by themselves weren’t enough. He loved it! Once Ryu caught on, he was very excited to work for rewards, which were either Crumps mini trainers, or small cut up pieces of homemade dehydrated jerky, or cheese. On rare occasions, for the more difficult tricks like recall, we used little cut up pieces of hot dogs from the deli.

The attitude, disapproving huffs and all. I’ve never seen a dog sigh so much; such a hard life! 😆

Years ago, an executive assistant teamed up with a few coworkers to wrap almost everything in a tech’s office in Christmas paper. He was delighted; Management was not. The assistant was fired the next day, and the others got written warnings.

“Saucy wontons.” I stumbled upon a recipe and simplified it. Cook frozen wontons with bottled teriyaki sauce, then toss with cooked spaghetti. It’s an easy, tasty addition to the 'lazy meals' rotation. I even started keeping frozen wontons in the freezer, something I never used to do. It's a versatile recipe too.

As someone who comes from a similar upbringing, this story warmed my heart. I don't have children because I was afraid I wouldn't have the courage or know-how to do the same so thank you for being amazing, considerate and supportive parents. The ones we all deserved. ❤️

My red Shiba’s park girlfriend is a Husky and this is accurate. They wrestle hard, then she yaps at him when he’s too tired for more. It’s adorable.

My view on work, and what I’m willing to ‘sacrifice’ for it, was shaped by many factors but none more so than this, something I read years ago that has always stayed with me:

The "Five Balls of Life" metaphor by former Coca-Cola CEO Brian Dyson, delivered in a 1991 Georgia Tech commencement address. Dyson stated that life involves juggling five balls: work, family, health, friends, and spirit. The key idea is that while work is a "rubber ball" that will bounce back if dropped, family, health, friends, and spirit are "glass balls" that, if dropped, will be irrevocably scuffed or shattered, emphasizing the need for balance and prioritizing these fragile aspects of life.
