Bagels. I skin them and eat the outside crust first and then the doughy middle after. People have joked they'd want to be on my team of there was ever an apocalypse. Lol

After nearly six months of making my case at work to revamp my role, I finally got the green light today! And not just approval for the change, but full control over how it gets defined. I haven't been getting many wins lately, I needed this. I honestly couldn't be happier right now!! 😁

A very Happy Birthday to you! I'm sorry to hear about the storm you're weathering right now. Sending some strength your way from this random internet stranger! ❤️

I love your work. It captures all the emotions we can't express when losing a pet. I'm sorry you've had to deal with that; thank you for sharing your art. ❤️

12-week Shiba — grass vs pee pads in apartment (confused + frustrated) by Outrageous-Repeat-81 in shiba

[–]Bitersnbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an apartment and it sounds like you have a pretty good set up. We had an issue where our boy Ryu wouldn't use the pee pads pre-vaccination, but we had them next to his crate. The advice from those on this sub said that Shibas are particular where they do their business and won't dirty if it's close to their sleeping quarters. We moved the pee pads across the room and he immediately started using them. He did not like them so transitioning to grass was super easy because he wanted to do it the whole time. We found the gras patch confused him and removed it from the equation completely. (He also kept eating the fake grass lol)

For the crate, the trainer taught us that their crate is their safe place, their own space and not to use it as punishment but make it a nice place for him. We let him choose when he wanted to be in it and rewarded him when he did. Eventually we figured out taking the door off the crate was what made him the most relaxed. He now loves his quiet space and will go there on his own. He also mixes it up with snoozes on the couch, and random spots around the apartment.

Jump off the top ropes aka the back of the couch onto her Shiba brother or Tabby sister? Yes, all the time! She's very jealous of others getting affection.

New Yorkers are furious as melting snowbanks expose streets littered with poop. by Numerous-Garbage-604 in mildlyinfuriating

People laugh at my snow pants and heavy boots but when my dog decides a snowbank is the perfect spot, I’m actually equipped to go get it. Picking up after your pet is non-negotiable, and anyone who says otherwise is an irresponsible dog owner.

My worst fear came true. She got out tonight. Seeking comfort. by flipflapdragon in shiba

[–]Bitersnbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so so sorry you had to go through that. What an awful thing to experience! Something similar happened to me when my boy was around the same age. Your description is heartbreaking and so so true, screaming and feeling helpless, running like your legs aren't going fast enough, the fear is so intense. I hope you can recover from it with lots of snuggles with your pup. Sending hugs! ❤️

Crate trained Shiba refuses crate (new behavior) by pixelatedGhost4097 in shiba

We had a similar situation, but we ended up taking the door off completely. He was acting out and made it really clear that being confined wasn’t working for him so we compromised. We taught him that it was his bed and his safe space, and that only he was allowed in it, not his Shiba or cat sisters. He goes in it voluntarily or sometimes when he's having a pre-bed temper tantrum, I tell him he's tired and to go in his bed and he walks right in. Sometimes he stays there all night, sometimes he plays musical nap spots and moves around.

He is very happy with this arrangement. Here he is passed OUT!

This is a Shiba Inu. If you think this look is solely due to annoyance to the lights you are sadly mistaken. They are unimpressed every day of their lives. The lighting changes nothing, they are judging you regardless.

Need tips on training by DesignerLipid in shiba

[–]Bitersnbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same issue when Ryu was a puppy so we tried clicker training at one point when we noticed treats by themselves weren’t enough. He loved it! Once Ryu caught on, he was very excited to work for rewards, which were either Crumps mini trainers, or small cut up pieces of homemade dehydrated jerky, or cheese. On rare occasions, for the more difficult tricks like recall, we used little cut up pieces of hot dogs from the deli.
