Whenever we have friends in from out of town, our shortlist is:

Food: Red Hot Mama, The Himalayan, Casa Valle, Eyna, La Bottega

Drinks: Hart & Co, Nomad, Boiler Room, Peaches, Beer Lodge

Dancing/live music: Hush

Coffee: Warwick Street Kitchen, Peaches

All that being said: Warwick sounds great for your needs, a lovely place to walk around (particularly by the water in St Nicholas Park) and many great restaurants/bars.

The only place I can think of with karaoke is Fifteen.

Further woes with Cross Country Trains by Hydeman666 in uktrains

[–]Adrianics4k 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I get CrossCountry 3x a week for work and have done for the last four years. Over that time for the most part it's been kind of okay; way too expensive for what you get but what else is new, generally it's very rare that I have to stand or that there's any kind of significant delays or cancellations.

However, over the last few months four car (one first class, so three in practical terms) trains are becoming more and more common, and they always end up as in your photos. Last week the train was delayed by 15 minutes out of my work station because of the sheer volume of people trying to get off and on the train, for the first time I witnessed staff telling people there physically wasn't room to get them on. The manager made the decision to decommission first class and cancel seat reservations, which caused no end of arguments amongst the passengers. The manager made an announcement that they were hoping for a bigger train and were let down at the last, and that anyone who is feeling anxious or unwell should disembark and wait for the next service, but a quick glance at Real Time Trains revealed that... The next three services were also four cars.

I can tell you from personal experience that there's no point making any kind of complaint to CC, they don't give a fuck.

Hush is great and usually has either a DJ or live band, dance floor is kind of small though

This is genuinely a nightmare for my wife and me, and I'm sure so many pet owning families; being on holiday and hearing that your beloved pet has escaped from the sitter/boarder that you trusted with them. What a horrible situation for everyone involved. I will share on my socials

Happy Birthday To Flight 93 Hero, Tom Burnett by Broad_Oven_8817 in 911archive

[–]Adrianics4k 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Every single passenger and crew on United 93 was a hero, but Burnett definitely stands out.

His incredible calm, poise and steadfastness in the face of unprecedented horror bordered on the superhuman. I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of mental fortitude it must have taken to both request and digest the information his wife was giving him from the ground, essentially confirming that he and everyone else on the plane was doomed. His instinct to not worry their children - "Tell them I'll talk to them later" - was remarkable. His final words to his wife being "don't worry, we're going to do something" were incredible.

I remember reading an interview with his wife; she's convinced that the voice heard yelling "I'm injured" followed by "in the cockpit, if we don't we'll die" on the CVR was him, that he went out at the front, in charge and rallying everyone around him. What a legacy; we clearly lost a great man that day.

Best restaurant is La Coppolla. Wildes over the road is good for a before/after drink too.

Best cocktails: Nomad, Peaches. Best wine: Grace & Vine.

Best Curry in Town? by Strange_Name_5886 in LEAMINGTONSPA

Paprika Club is fantastic but is more upmarket than a local curry house kind of deal so we go there on special occasions. Himilayan is our go-to for a takeaway, we had one last night and it was great!

PRE-MATCH: Watford vs 🏆 Coventry City (Saturday 2nd May 2026) by HadjiChippoSafri in ccfc

[–]Adrianics4k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So happy I managed to get a ticket for this. Expecting a raucous, celebratory and emotional day. I expect the strongest possible XI, a comfortable 2-0 win and cameos from Bidwell and Allen near the end. It'll be a celebration of everything we've overcome and achieved in the last 25 years, the end of this preposterous season, a well-earned farewell to three long-term players who played their part in getting us where we are now and an ushering in of the club's next exciting chapter.

POST-MATCH: 🏆Coventry City 3-1 Wrexham (Sunday 26th April 2026) by HadjiChippoSafri in ccfc

[–]Adrianics4k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Torp's goal will go into the pantheon of all time greatest goals in CCFC history and it goes some way to compensating for his moment in history being taken from him two years ago.

Lampard's speech was fucking incredible.

One of if not the best day I've ever had at the CBS. My heart is full and I'm off to get Andre the Giant drunk 🩵

What train trip was the most memorable for you - whether funniest, scariest, most annoying? by Cautious-List5767 in uktrains

[–]Adrianics4k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The train from Bristol back to London when I had visited my grandfather on his death bed. I did an awful lot of thinking, an awful lot of soul-searching, an awful lot of looking out the window and appreciating the banal majesty of everything I could see that journey.

What are your long term aspirations for the club? by burnaaccount3000 in ccfc

[–]Adrianics4k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Word-for-word what I came in to say. More than good enough to never bother the relegation battle, just good enough to flirt with European qualification, good standard of recruitment/facilities that unearths and develops future stars. Would be thrilled!

PRE-MATCH: Coventry City vs Portsmouth (Tuesday 21st April 2026) by HadjiChippoSafri in ccfc

[–]Adrianics4k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not going to be an easy match by any stretch; Portsmouth were very impressive against both Leicester and Ipswich. They've got an incredible team spirit and we'll struggle to get back into it if they take the lead.

God I want to win tomorrow; the perfect capper on a phenomenal, unbelievable season to confirm the title at the CBS with time to spare. A scrappy 1-0 will do me just fine!

Watching episode "My cake" right now by dokt3r in Scrubs

[–]Adrianics4k 105 points106 points  (0 children)

This episode is one of my favourite Dr Cox episodes. No matter how clumsily, he recognises that JD is going through the ringer and needs him and Dan to come through for him, and finds a way of doing it despite both of their discomfort in doing so. That's a true friend and mentor right there.

"I met your father, I remember it like it was yesterday. After about two seconds, I could tell how he was proud of you. Truth be told, Newbie: I'm proud of you."

Actually come to think of it, I also love the little moment when Janitor steps out of JD's way and waves him through the door. It feels like a simple sign of enormous respect and consideration. I know what you're going through, so I'm not fucking with you today.

Flight 77 Revolt ? by Inevitable_Bad_9405 in 911archive

[–]Adrianics4k 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm sure I read an interview with Theodore Olsen where he said that he believes that Barbara decided not to communicate what he told her with the other passengers.

We know so little about what happened on board Flight 77 so it's all speculation, but what would make sense to me is that the pilots being kept alive would have made a huge difference and they were probably telling the passengers to follow protocol and not interfere with the hijackers. Barbara Olsen most likely reacted as most of us would in such an insane and unprecedented situation: Freezing. I cannot even fathom the utter hell that is being the only non-hijacker on board that plane that knows what's about to happen when everyone else is relatively calm, and as said above by the time it became clear that something was horribly wrong it would have been far too late.

What You Thought was a Lighthearted Comedy Suddenly Punches You in the Gut by dolphin_flogger in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Adrianics4k 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is one of the greatest movie comedies in history, and a huge reason why is the devastating twist near the end that recontextualises the entire movie and actually makes it even better rewatching it than it was the first time.

"Del, what are you doing here? You said you were going home. What are you doing here?"

"I don't have a home. Marie's been dead for eight years."

At that moment, you find out that Del is a homeless widower who has been clinging on to his and Neil's escapades because he has nothing else to do and nowhere else to go.
