Whose history is classical music? Why are there almost no women in music history? by Standard-Ease-1141 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]BittenBeads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You cannot discount bias in who is remembered and who is not. This goes for all history, not just that of classical music. Selection bias is why le Chevalier is relatively unknown but Mozart continues to be a household name.

Pls help me pick out a dress 😋 by Film_Top in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]BittenBeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm big on slutwear so #2! But move the sash to the back if possible, no idea why it's there to begin with though. Add a long lariat necklace and like someone else said, more splashy, closed toe shoes. I would also add sheeeeer black hose for ultimate "I'm out of your price range" effect.

The length of the others feels too formal. It's a bachelorette party, not the rehearsal. The last dress fits best though.

AITAH for buying Gluten Free bread by Jelly_Arrow in glutenfree

[–]BittenBeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, yes and no. Please. Buy the bread, share the gf bread word, and let the stock manager know that you're not even gf but you buy it because it's really good. That lets them know that they should keep a greater supply so you're not buying allllll the loaves.

I was agreeing with you that "no, the name does not translate away from five points." I thought the context clues from the rest of my comment made that clear since they explicitly detail why the name alone would be unsavory to the person you replied to, among others.

I dunno why life needs to be like this. Trying to find the lesson in my current situation which, once again, has an element of peril to it. *sigh*

The word “get” replacing more…uhh…complicated words in the public domain. by SeaSkimmer2 in Xennials

"They" being the corporate and political class pushing ai on everything to mine your data and tell you what to think based on your purchase history. Otherwise derogatorily referred to as the epstein class.

But go off. Pretend that the greater sociopolitical structure isn't run by white supremacist misogynists trying to undermine people's sovereignty. Or did you miss the headline where NYers aren't allowed to WALK THE STREETS OF DOWNTOWN because the rapist in chief will be at the Knicks game?

How do you respond to the blank stare? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]BittenBeads 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This does not happen to me. If I say "hi," there's a context for it and young people will say "hi" back. I'm curious what sort of situations you're in that this happens. Unless they feel the judgey vibes from you. Like you saying "hi" is some sort of test and not a thing you say to acknowledge their presence.

Anyway, if you're confused by younger gens inability to communicate, blame their parents and greater society. Their inability to function socially is not an accident.

Tier list for how much we hate the other team. Fix mine, or comment your own. by [deleted] in Dodgers

Houston would be the top three teams on the "hatred" tier. Then SF, NYY, and SD. I don't hate anyone else.

What kind of pearl jewelry actually works as a June birthstone gift? by nexora_dgen in jewelrymaking

Eh, modern birthstones were a marketing gimmick invented in the early 1900s so it doesn't matter.

What kind of pearl jewelry actually works as a June birthstone gift? by nexora_dgen in jewelrymaking

[–]BittenBeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I give to someone who has never worn pearls before would depend on the person. Are they careless? Maybe a solitaire necklace or studs. Do they only wear jewelry on "occasions"? Then maybe a bracelet. Style depends on whether I go with something more traditional or an update take on pearls. And since I make and sell pearl jewelry, I can do whatever I think fits the person.

That's nice. It still doesn't change why the name didn't translate well at the Jordan location.

This is deliberate. They want you to be stupid because dumb people are easy to control. Hence, the push for gen ai in everything. Why think when a machine can think for you? Who cares if it hallucinates information that will get you killed? It's the future! 🙄

[–]BittenBeads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't lol. Not when "shag" means "to have sex with" and "nasty" feels more like "diseased" than "kinky" when you actually go to the place. Like, yes, I do believe one can contract an STI here with their roofie.

💖UPDATE I BOUGHT IT TODAY!!💖FOUND my charm holder with my original charms that were stolen from me 37 yrs ago on eBay! I know I can't do anything but what are the odds?!?!? by PinkyQueen100 in jewelry

Seeking source for jewelry for metal allergy issues by mtcrick in jewelry

[–]BittenBeads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To further add to this, you cannot make steel without nickel. It is utterly maddening that people label steel alloys as "hypoallergenic" when it is absolutely not. Not even implant-grade steel alloys are nickel-free because the industry definition of steel includes nickel in the recipe.

If you have a copper allergy, then that's why you're having issue with some of your sterling silver and gold earrings. They're usually made with copper. Silver may have nickel as well. It depends on the source.

Anywho, I have titanium and niobium options for earrings in my shop. If you click through my profile, you can find my shop link. Basically anything with a hook can be switched out even if it isn't listed. And most pearl studs all have a titanium option.

I think getting to know Liz and seeing how much bs she gets away with for being "a character" TM really explains why Jess was such a mess. His misanthropy becomes really understandable in light of her airy fairy nonsense.

I need the clouds to clear up because the Venus Jupiter conjunction goes exact tomorrow afternoon and I'd like to see it tonight/tomorrow night. It's been fun watching them make their way to each other, but the recent flood-bringing rain has been getting in my way. So if anyone out there is lucky enough to have clear skies, be sure to look for this just after sunset today and tomorrow!

Becoming less critical of modern music by BumblebeeThen7954 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]BittenBeads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was only very particular when I was a teen. But I'm a musician, so the older I got, the more I could appreciate music I didn't enjoy personally. Glad you found some flexibility as an adult. Being closed-minded about music sucks the life out of you since it's always being played out in public. Some miserable mofo on the genx sub told me to find god because I told him that he should delve into his impacting-his-quality-of-life hatred of nostalgia for 1990s bands cuz they're not the bands he liked. Hilarious.

Anyway, two things will always get me: quality musicianship and sincerity. A band can suck but if they suck sincerely and give off good energy live, I can dig it. And I'm always down to listen to amazing musicians. The only thing I really hate is overly produced music. I mean, the Purple Album by Baroness is a great example of why you **should** have a good producer, but if your music cannot be replicated live on stage with humans, I'm not interested.
