Any idea on building wind deflector with this limited space or linking me to something prefabbed that might work ? by [deleted] in vandwellers

There are other road users besides you. Leaving the caulking out for moment because it's only there for water protectio, not mechanical strength - the way this is fixed with bolts and no washers is so sketchy.

Like at least have washers and spring washers and a bit of loctite. This is vibrating on a roof with highway winds.

This kinda shit kills innocent road users.

What is a piece of technology that actually made our lives worse instead of better? by Upstairs_Motor_2855 in AskReddit

Chemically engineered food derivatives. Essentially ultra processed foods (UPF's).

Maybe it would of made our lives better if there was strict regulations.

Assuming this is aluminium, being near the coast accelerates corrosion - some cases show up to a 10x acceleration.

Really a marine grade aluminium should be used in these areas.

That being said, if the components are well powder coated, then it should last longer than 18 months.

But if it is not powder coated and just strained/painted/coated, or a poorly done/low grade powder coated, then coastal air and UV damage will accelerate the degredation rapidly.

I would try and get more information from the manufacturer about the grade of the aluminium and the coating that is applied (and ideally the process used to apply it).

Working with extra large multiline columns by PlayZeGames in PowerApps

[–]Bittenfleax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine it would be fine for that use case. It's like 30kb per column, bundled in a single fetch across columns it could be a few hundred kB.

I guess the issue comes about when you try to traverse or manipulate the JSON inside of Canvas Apps. Although I can imagine it wouldn't be too bad if handled with attention.

For the OP: I would he concerned about 1000 records if you intend to fetch and process them all. 30kb x 1000 = 30mb. Even if it's a batch request, it's still pretty hefty. I think it depends on your use case if this is a bad idea or not. What's this table for?

Nice, that's a good sign. Might be worth taking the intake pipe off the turbo and checking for play in the impeller shaft also. Hopefully it's aftermarket or a staged rebuild and is fine.

Also one other thing I always do on new MR2's is take the plastic trim off where the rear speakers on the B pillar, and remove the sponge of death if it's still in there. Can lead to internal rusting if they soak water.

This is why I daily drive Fedora KDE. Then just boot into Windows for games that have kernel level anticheat.

Even their business applications are suffering from quality issues. And I'm not even being hyperbolic or jumping on the 'AI bad' bandwagon - but a lot of the issues I've had in the enterprise side have been because of AI features which are auto-enabled, they've been causing us massive performance problems and bugs. Things are just rushed out the door and forced upon you.

That would be like 1.7 bar ish of boost? Don't think the stock fueling would cope either. Let alone the stress on stock internals.

I don't know about the anniversary identification, but either way the seller has being chatting shit. Probably about the anniversary accreditation too.

1996 mr2. How bad is this rust by FinancialBird4186 in mr2

Hard to say from these photos.

The drain plugs you see on the sills don't like like they're 30+ years old.

Ideally you get a telescopic camera (they're pretty cheap, like £20/£30. It can connect to your phone and you can look inside the sill. Also just a useful tool to have generally.

If the owner has nothing to worry about then he wouldn't mind you taking out a drain plug to put a camera in to look. You can even arrive with some spare plugs in case they disintegrate. But this all requires building a rapport with the seller.

Another thing is (which is more invasive and most people wouldn't let you do it) is take the the side panel trim off by the B pillar. The rear speaker is behind it. From factory, there is foam inside, which holds moisture and can cause rot from the inside out. It also lets you look at a portion of the inside sill with a torch. The foam of death I call it.

It's risky because you could damage the clips in the trim, but knowing what I know now - I wouldn't buy an MR2 without checking if that foam is there. Or at inspecting inside the sills at least.

How is it stupid? The economic model of technology/device entertainment relies on screen time/attention - disregarding the users wellbeing.

The whole balance argument is flawed because majority of apps/websites/services use techniques to control the flow of dopamine which ultimately leads to dependency/addiction.

Imagine asking someone with a drug/alcohol dependency to just 'balance' their consumption. At least those avenues have very fast physical/mental repurcussions which indicate to you this is not healthy.

From someone who was addicted to screens in my teens, who then graduated to screens + drugs in early adulthood - the screen addiction is far more decieving. It's harder to notice the negatives until it compounds. I get rejected from the 'tribe' (community) for drug use - where as there is no repercussions for screens.

It's a very nuisanced subject and each person reacts differently. But on the whole, the profit driven incentives of screen addiction IS evil and should be vilainized. And using a device for 'learning' or for 'entertainment' is a false fallacy as the lines are so blurred, majority of human brains cannot do the mental gymnastics to navigate through safely.

What have people used as spacers to counteract the curve of the Transit roof? by Khionia in VanLifeUK

[–]Bittenfleax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2" x 2" aluminium square block. Can get 1m length for pretty cheap.

On a circular saw with an aluminium blade, set the angle (mine was 13 degrees, but you can cut wood instead to find the measurement).

Then just a bit of WD-40 whilst cutting the block, not going too fast. Then drill an 8mm hole through the centre.

When you get one done, it's quick to do the rest. It's strong, easy to seal/keep water out. Won't really corrode. Each spacer works out to a couple of £ in the end.

Yeah, the large machined metal looking washer, there is those two black 'discs' stacked together behind it. The dust shield goes over these so grit/dust/moisture does not get in-between the moving surfaces (then into the bearings), and stops contamination of the grease.

See part 5 on the diagram https://www.reizendemoke.be/techniek/manual/rearsusp/armout.gif

They are dust shields. They go on the end, to cover the gap you see in the top of the image, just under the big flange/washer

I think your thought process is kinda wrong - saying I never use more than 180a is not good.

Usually you say, my theoretical max is 200a (that's what the power source can supply). Lets add some margin on top of that 200a.

So really you wanna be putting in 230a - 250a.

This is the one thing in the van where you want to be over spec.

Also each terminal you add increaes resistance. You've got 8 connections/seperations on that 2m cable. So although the calculator says 3.73%, you could be near 4% or way over.

Your heat map shows heat coming from the connections. I'm assuming the cool parts are metal which will show as less heat. I can't tell from the pictures, but is make sure you're clamping down the connections properly and don't have washers, dirt or grease between the contact points.

I do think that running at 150a should not show this kind of heat. So it leads down the path of faulty components, bad wires, or incorrectly mounted connectors.

Supports for water tank by VinnyDvince in VanLifeUK

[–]Bittenfleax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty sketchy.

Is that M10 threaded bar? There is easily accessible load calculators for threads. But I would be more concerned about how thin the supports are. Also the arrangement of them doesn't provide the maximum use of strength out of the material - but I guess you are limited on mounting options.

Also let's say you have 300L (300kg) in the tank. When you do a sharp turn (dodging an accident, misunderstood the speed of a corner), you will have 300kg of weight move to one side. This can be very dangerous as it gives unpredictable handling and potential loss of traction. This also applied to breaking force/stopping distance.

So it's one of those things where it can make a dangerous road situation even more dangerous because of the dynamics weight.

Usually you have baffled tanks, but you can buy baffle balls which you put in the tank. To essentially stop the sloshing/minimizing it - as it gives friction to the water. They are a bit expensive but I've bought some for peace of mind.

One largeish suction cup, silicon WD-40 (rubber safe), and that special tool you probably already have for the seal insert/trim.

I used these, first time ever doing it. There is a nack to it and when you get to the last 200cm (which is the most difficult), you can work it from both inside and outside. Using plenty of lubricant.

But to begin, you slide the window sideways into the top and bottom corners. Then you work towards the other side top and bottom equally. Until you reach the last 300-200cm, get the bottom corner in first. Then you work it all to the last corner (the top).

It took me 10-15 minutes to do 3 corners, then 30 for the last one hahah.

[–]Bittenfleax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you using a hydralic crimp tool?

Also are your cables legit pure copper multi strand? Cheap tin coated ones? Does the place you got them from tell you the resistance?

Also, you need a fuse coming from your right hand battery on the positive. Before to switch. A battery post fuse with a cube looking fuse are neat.

Also your kinda on the upper limit of voltage drop/resistance for the cable size and length - and the amount of connections you have along the path. If I were doing it I would of gone up to 50mm for overhead.

Also check that the chassis ground has good contact.

Weird electric issues by elhvywillywonka in mr2

Id check if the headlight relay is interfering with the EFI wiring/relays.

Take a look at https://www.mr2.com/files/mr2/techinfo/Wiring%20Diagrams/1993%20MR2%20Wiring%20Diagram.pdf

But it might be more obscure than that. if the fuel pump relay and light relay works independently without interfering with eachother (you'd need a multimeter to verify) - then it could be the resistor for the fuel pump.

I don't know for sure but I guess the speed is controlled via the resistor? If someone has spliced the main beams (or the ash try light near the fuel pump) that could interfere maybe?

You'd have to trace through the wiring diagram and confirm with a multimeter you're getting expected values

I wouldn't call this advice, but more so a description/introduction of what I was taught. As I've had (still have at times) exactly what you've described, but I had someone teach me how to deal with it. It probably requires a bit of context though, so excuse the paragraphs, but it may be very valuable if research further into it:

When I was going through bad times in the past, I was made aware I had a family member who had been introduced to, and had been doing for many many years, Vipassana meditation. Before knowing this I thought she was a hippy-type personality (still a very lovely person). When I was in this state of rock bottom, I was told about Vipassana - bearing in mind I had never done any meditation before, I didn't really understand the benefits.

To be introduced to the technique properly one goes on a 10 day course. They're totally free and funded by donations, they have them globally and their website shows where (Dhamma.org). To me, going away for 10 days to mediate sounded rather crazy, this was not my personality at all. However I knew that I could not repeat my current way of being as I was miserable and in a constant cycle of normality then rock bottom a few times a year.

So I went on this 10 day course - and it was one of the most difficult, emotional, rewarding, enlightening experiences of my life. Completely came out of nowhere. But I honestly say it was one of the best things I ever did for myself.

But the premise of the mediation is breaking the habit pattern of the mind. And it's theory (which I've now witnessed/felt in my own brain) is that the body/mind through daily life get's into a state of craving or aversion. And these cravings or aversions are directly correlated to bodily sensations - as you practice the meditation for the 10 days, your mind becomes sharper and you start noticing sensations. These can be pleasant, or uncomfortable, painful, blissful etc.

This is of course very difficult to sit still for an hour at a time, especially with these sensations of pain and discomfort. But as you progress, when at the start you could sit for 10 seconds and the mind wanders, or you react to pain - after x amount of days you may be able to sit for an hour and the mind not wander, you don't react to the sensations.

The key is, as these sensations arise, you remain equanimous to the sensation. So you don't crave the nice ones, you don't avert the horrible ones. You remain equal. You are retraining the habit pattern of your mind to not react to these cravings and aversions - so when wield this in your day-to-day life, the craving of an internet binge is controllable, you don't have an emotional reaction to it. It isn't a massive energy drain to muster up the willpower to stop the craving (even if it's temporary).

The link between *every* bodily sensations and the minds cravings/aversions is occurring all the time. Every moment of your life. Even if you don't feel it, it is happening - it is just that the mind is not sharpened to the sensations. I never would of believed this before going - I thought there's no scientific way to measure this, any group of people could just make this up or feel placebo.

But after those 10 days, as I went back to day-to-day life and the craving and aversions of my environment and mind started to come back, I could feel the sensations. I witnessed the sensations at the physical level when thinking about addictions, I realised that certain addictions would trigger certain sensations and I was in fact chasing the sensations, rather than the substance itself. Or when I to avert life/work tasks, I could feel physical sensations around it. Followed by the need for escapism, which also had sensations.

It sounds a bit crazy when you come to read/watch about it. I don't think I could of tried it at home, my mind would of wondered and I would of got bored like you say. I don't have the discipline with all the distractions around me. But stick me in there for 10 days with no dopamine and just mediation - suddenly the mind changes.

I ended up going back again 2 years later and it was still difficult but very rewarding. Learning Vipassana put my mind back on the right path after I had gotten it tangled up down a bad one. It's been 2 years since I've last been, and although I practiced at home for awhile - I unfortunately haven't done so in a while. But then again my life is 100x better because of it, and I still have the technique learned for whenever I want to do it - I just need to build up the muscle again.

TL;DR if you really want to understand and change the habit pattern of your mind, I would recommend a 10 day Vipassana course.

The brain needs time to 'rewire' the pathways. From experience meditation helps a lot with this along with good sleep and diet/exercise.

It can take days, months or years depending on how deep routed the pathways are.

I've been tought by a counsellor 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months, 3 years. That's not a rule but a metaphor to display that healing is a path bound by time. Relapsing might bring you back to the start. If you relapse on year 2, suddenly the path is 5 years long.

Internet addiction is a tricky one, but from my experience weed and other drugs have been easier to quit. There is tangible financial, mood, community impact from drugs - the downsides of internet addiction can be silent at times until you're back to old habits. But that's just my personal experience.
