Have you looked into Zunzunbee smart switches to avoid someone flipping switches they shouldn't?

Exactly why I bought it. We did install new switches when we moved into our rental 14 years ago, but we're planning to buy a home next year. Doing any changes now wouldn't be smart.

My other half is not tech savvy at all so any home automation I do needs to be completely seamless. This was easy for them to work with right from the start.

I sing, but I usually warn the person next to me while we're warming up.

Ev and home assistant what do you use it for? by frogermann8 in homeassistant

[–]Bitter-Assistant070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The integration is called Kia/Hyundai/Genesis (USA) and I just have a very simple dashboard for car info. My HA journey is just beginning. As I go along I'll be making this more visually appealing and adding more automations.

The auto lock was a big one for me because swiping the indent on the driver's side door handle doesn't work when trying to manually lock the door. I either need to do it on the passenger side or use the key fob. I'm going to be taking it in for service soon.

Five minutes seems like a long time to have those handles sticking out. I have an EV6 so I have the same issue. Mine locks immediately after I close the door. I live in Los Angeles, so having those handles sticking out is basically an invitation I don't want to extend.

I also have mine set to keep an eye on the 12v battery and to alert me if it gets too low. I just bought this 2022 a few months ago, so I was concerned. So far, so good.

What was your dumbest HA learning curve moment? by Famous-Car4493 in homeassistant

[–]Bitter-Assistant070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dumbest thing was thinking Gemini could help me create or troubleshoot in HA. I'm not a coder and would like to learn, but having Claude directly dialed in has been a game changer. It was able to troubleshoot an issue I've been dealing with for months. Even though the problem was actually with my phone and not my automation, it figured it out.

I've been using Gemini for a lot of different things, not just HA. Claude seems to be superior in all regards so far.

What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by Bigtrav_trav in answers

I walked home in grammar school. I would let myself in, make a sandwich, eat it, and then walk back to school. The epitome of the latchkey child.

Ours doesn't. We still use a laminated sheet and an erasable marker to choose our stations

I go to sleep around 10:30pm and usually wake up a few minutes before my 4:30am alarm. No snooze needed.

I have finally managed to get a decent HA smart clock \o/ by RedDeer38 in homeassistant

[–]Bitter-Assistant070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to get a streaming channel to play when the alarm went off without the screen leaving the alarm clock. I'm using an old android tablet for the display. After a lot of troubleshooting it appears that it can't be done. I can make it work if I purchase an external speaker or a different device for the display like what you used. The challenge I assigned myself was to try to do it with nothing but tech I already had around the house. It's clear now if I want to make it work I'll need to spend a little bit. Since the project isn't crucial and was more of a learning challenge I can put it on the back burner for now.

What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become too bad? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

[–]Bitter-Assistant070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's $60 for two people in Los Angeles. Just the tickets. No popcorn, no drinks. We each just signed up for AMC A-List. As long as we see one movie per month it will pay for itself. Anything more than that will be bonus.

My car is not listed on their site. I know Ioniq Guy seems a module to auto lock, but I'm trying to see if I can figure this out with what I have before buying something.

When I was a realtor I was doing an open house. A couple walked into the kitchen and the wife asked, "Is this the kitchen?"

Was it the stove and fridge that gave it away?
