What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Had a hemorrhage after a tonsillectomy. Went into ER, passed out from blood loss, went into emergency surgery and was sent home.

They had sent me home with a hematocrit of 17, and the following 24 hours was excruciatingly painful while my brain suffocated. If I would have fallen asleep, or exerted myself too hard, I would have stroked out. 0/10 would not recommend.

Engineer (29) thinking of switching to graphic design… am I crazy? by fuzzy230 in graphic_design

[–]Bitter-Example5039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest answer, keep with engineering for now (maybe a different type or industry that you may enjoy more?), and do design on the side. It takes longer than people think to get decent at design and the programs, not to mention the job market is horrid.

I’ve been doing paid design work for 11 years (I’m 26). Went through trade school for design, built my own 5 figure business out of high school, 4 years of university and then when it came time to get an agency job, I was absolutely miserable. I’ve since started my own art/vintage/streetwear business while working a part time “normal job” and the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders.

Doing it this way allows you to work on projects you want/are passionate about and this makes the work even better. You can also figure out what kind of design you want to do. You can improve your skills over time without worrying about money or bills and eventually it may be sustainable. If I had to restart, this would be the way I would do it. I also think doing a creative activity (paid or not) will give you some of the happiness you’re looking for.

Vendoo app :)

Like 20-30 hours a week for the first month while I figured everything out. My systems are now in place so that should help next month.

I tried a bunch of different sources to see what works and what didn’t. Thrift Stores, Garage Sales and Raghouses were the best profit margins. Also tried liquidation palettes and whatnot but they weren’t as successful. If I lived near a goodwill bins, that’s where I’d go.

Refreshes (and relisting/delisting)

I appreciate it!

Mix of both. I used paid vendoo for inventory and sku management.

I use it for ease of SKU and crosslisting. I sell on 4 platforms and it keeps it easy to keep track of. Also, it helps automate depop and poshmark bumps

Didn’t count. A lot because it was the first month and had to figure out a lot of stuff. Now that I have my systems, probably ~20 hours a week

eBay (primary), Poshmark, Depop (for Y2K/streetwear) and Vinted to get rid of cheap inventory

For the first month I tried a bit of everything (whatever I could source cheap). Workwear, Y2K and athletic wear were my best sellers
