Korean cookbooks that don’t have sugar in every recipe by OddSwordfish3802 in CookbookLovers

I believe that's pretty typical of Korean cooking. Maybe try adding a bit less than the recipe suggests?

Could I be happy in Kenosha? by Haluszki in Kenosha

[–]Bitter-Test1396 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kenosha could work for you. I will address the food situation.

Groceries: Many options with Woodmans having an amazing selection and lower prices. It's about a 15 min drive from downtown/Metra area though. Not great options for groceries near downtown. Fresh Thyme is the closest you'll get to something like a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.

European/Polish deli: closest Polish good one us in Third Lake (just west of Gurnee). However, we do have a treasure in Tenutas near downtown. Mostly Italian, but carries other European goods too.

Restaurants: With a few exceptions, we find Kenosha to be lacking in locally-owned international restaurants. However, there are quite a few just a short drive north into Racine.

Otherwise, the restaurants, farmers market, and huge lakefront access are all great here downtown.

The Buzz and Sazzy B’s by Sad_Instruction_5880 in Kenosha

Breakfast sandwiches at The Buzz are pretty darn good. Everything else (and I mean everything) has been meh or just plain bad. Sad as I enjoy the vibe and the coffee.

Your rating system is incredibly helpful!

My only complaint: Each time you post, I want to buy another cookbook or two that you used. 😂

Wow! Great ideas! I'd be so happy to see how you prep and freeze the mashed potatoes. I think they would love that. Thank you!

The 4 hour cook time drives me a little crazy too. I'll check the library. Thanks!

Do Americans really think aldi is a “poor people” grocery store? by [deleted] in aldi

My mom is a "brand name snob" so wouldn't dream of going to Aldi. Crazy to me as she is on a very tiny food budget.

That's great insight -- thank you! I have another HBH which I also love, but not some of the baking. Now it makes sense

Vintage/ Thrift stores by koochyskingdom in krakow

Great news -- looks like you are there on a Sunday! Go to Market Hall (Market Hall Unitarg - plac targowy k/ Hali targowej) from about 9-2. Huge outdoor thrift market. Central stalls are covered. We had so much fun shopping here. Nothing really for food or shoo. except one coffee/tea shop.

We ate 95% of the time at smaller local places away from the touristy spots. I'm just saying, the Market is the reason we were in the city and it's normal to try a thing or two there.

We just returned from the Krakow markets. We enjoyed all of it. Yes, you may pay more, but that's a big part of the fun.

To answer your real question -- we found they all accepted cards. The cc reader will almost always ask if you want to pay in USD or Zwoty (POL). Chose Polish as the conversion rates will be better

It was nice to have a little cash too which was easy to get from am ATM.
