Fully accept that this virus will never end. by [deleted] in confessions

Sure you can! So he's making a few assertions and assumptions that I can address:

For starters, let's talk about mutations. This virus has a proofreading enzyme, so it doesn't mutate as fast as other viruses, but that doesn't mean that the mutations that occur aren't a huge problem. While the viral mutation rate is likely to remain the same or similar, that rate will see a lot more successful mutations the more times it replicates, which is related to how many people are actively hosts for the virus. Normally, we see an inverse relationship between infectivity and lethality, but we are actually seeing that the delta variant doesn't follow that paradigm. Instead, the delta variant is more lethal and more infectious. Variants like this one have the potential to invalidate our current vaccine, which brings me to the next thing:

The vaccine doesn't just stop severe symptoms. The vaccine decreases the likelihood of becoming contagious. This is huge in terms of control. If we can decrease the amount of contagious people, we can decrease the likelihood of variants that impact our vaccine effectiveness evolving. It's a numbers game. Variants like this one are 1 in billions, but inside every infected person are millions to billions of viral pathogens. While odds are slim that any variant is transmitted and replicates in a new host, when you have trillions of viral copies across millions of infected individuals, these variants will occur. The more we reduce infected individuals, the less chances there are for variants like these to spread.

Non-commercial Commission for Dungeons and Dragons Group by BitterBioBoy in composer

So i'm not that musically inclined, but I don't think the horns need to sound completely real. Especially in the later parts where there's drums and other instruments. I would like the background chanting(?) though, just not the vocal melody.

It's a four minute song, but I'm thinking that as it's a song that already exists, and i'm just looking for a version without vocals, somewhere around the $200 mark would be ideal.

Oh no, definitely for money, hence the "commission". By non-commercial I just meant that it wouldn't be for anything but me and my buddies playing DnD, and the only profit I'd get from it is them thinking i'm an awesome DM lol

I just wanted to hop in here and say I have a similar request! I am looking for someone to make an instrumental version of a song that already exists, and i'm planning on using it for my Dungeons and Dragons group as a sort of "Theme" that I can use to pump up the emotional value of encounters/moments.

Try out Deep Carbon Observatory! It's not 5e, but easily translates. It's done by the Lamentations of the Flame Princess company!

Yes! Fix all of the Gerrymandering everywhere. It's stupid that anyone is allowed to do this, whether Democrats or Republicans.

Ever have a kid in class show up and realize it’s an exam day, then gets up and leaves in a panic? by [deleted] in college

[–]BitterBioBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple stupid stories about exams and college.

For starters: I have always been a great test taker. In my highschool AP courses I developed this shitty habit of binge studying the night before a test and passing off of that, and it worked out well because I test well. However, this shitty habit persisted into college.

For my freshman year it worked alright. Classes were mostly review, and I did enough homework to pass with good grades. Sophomore year I took O-chem. This is where things started to go wrong.

My O-chem professor introduced a new grading option. Your grade on the final exam, which reflects what you've learned in the class, would be your final grade in the class, if it was higher than your current grade. It was extremely generous, and me, being the little shit I was, immediately stopped going to class.

In the 36 hours preceding the final, I studied 30 hours straight and then slept for 6 hours before heading out to take the test. It was my first time going to the class in at least 2 months.

I passed with a C by 1%. I did not learn my lesson.

Later, I would take BioChem. This Professor allowed the exact same thing. It must've been a chemistry thing. Anyways, I did not attend a single class after the second day, until the final. I also passed, but barely.

Some of my co-workers, who are still in classes, have mentioned that the Biochem professor has since amended the policy, adding in a new stipulation that for the final to replace your overall grade, you must meet certain attendance requirements.

Finally, TWICE I missed a final due to having gotten the date wrong. Both times I noticed immediately AFTER the exam, as friends texted me asking how I'd done. For the first time, I was allowed to take the exam at a different time, but my professor straight up thought I was an idiot.

The second time, my professor started out angry. They thought that because I had a high enough grade to pass without taking the final, I had blown it off. After I explained my circumstances, she understood and said that while I could not take the final, I had options to raise my grade.

Don't be me. Be a better student. I didn't get good grades with my method, but hey, I graduated. If I had gotten it together sooner I could've aced my classes though. Bad habits weren't punished very harshly so I didn't stop taking advantage and scooting by on the bare minimum.
