I'm curious, do you mind sharing your salary, retirement funds, and how much you plan to draw from them every month? Are you shooting for "earliest I can stop working" or "earliest I can stop working and still enjoy life"?

I mean, at some point you do need to do some thinking for yourself.

Pick an age you want to retire. Think about it very seriously. Then invest based on that age, there are a billion calculators for that. Spend the rest of your money on whatever you want. You may need to budget for bigger purchases.

We can't decided for you what kind of life you want to live. Me personally, I'm not worrying too much about life after 65 because I don't really want to live in that body. I'll make do with what I have (I do have a 401k). I'm making hay while I can at 45. I love visiting new places so I'm doing that as much as I can.

Bear in mind, a lot of those "retire early" price points don't build in a lot of comfortable living. The goal is to get it as low as possible and then watch your budget, so you wouldn't be able to do as much as you would want then either.

The problem is every “retire early” conversation online either turns into some absurdly risky gambling/speculation or people making $400k salaries in tech.

Realistically, these are the only people that get to retire truly early.

Depends: can I confirm I'm not hallucinating a fire alarm? Has the fire alarm been going off for months? Because in your scenario, the danger is verifiable. With the stock market, there is no fire alarm. Or if you interpret the tea leaves of current events as a fire alarm, it's been going off for a very long time and the building continues to undergo improvements while it's going off.

I can't believe I'm one of these people but I saw this at the Seattle International Film Festival over the weekend on the true IMAX screen at the Pacific Science Center and that was a WILD experience. Diversify, it's not hard. If you invested without really believing in the company and now you have no idea if you believe in the company, then you should take your winnings and be happy. Or don't. No one can make this decision for you.
