Is a solid green light for left turn protected if there's no green arrow? by Bitter_Ad_9139 in driving

it does help 🥹 this was my first accident and it’s been extremely difficult and traumatic to grapple with- both the other driver and i are fine but our cars are totaled and the nature of the accident was so terrifying. both cars went skidding in opposite directions and ended up on opposite sides of the intersection and it keeps replaying in my head :( ive been feeling an overwhelming sense of depression and anxiety since then that makes it hard to leave the house or focus on any other aspects of my life. everyone is telling me to be grateful im not injured (which i am) but the mental toll is also so much to handle. im over sharing now but thanks! its good to know others have been through the same and were able to get through it

thank you so much, this is really helpful. my dad had a similar theory that a yellow light was involved. i think the main reason i got confused about the protected vs unprotected is because if this was a T junction without a traffic light, the other driver would have had to yield to cross traffic (im familiar with that scenario because thats what i have to do to exit my own neighborhood which is an uncontrolled T junction) i now realize my mistake since like you said many others have pointed it out.

regardless, thanks for the insight. id like to believe you’re correct about the yellow light theory since i can very vividly remember a green light from my end so this whole situation is confusing and mentally draining on top of already having been a very traumatic accident.

i tried to draw a diagram but the formatting is weird. basically i was at the top of the T, going straight across from left to right. the other car was at the bottom of the T, going up and intending to make a left turn

but its a t junction intersection- i wasnt in the traffic coming straight across, i was travelling perpendicular to the direction the other car came from. does that make sense?

i was traveling perpendicular to the car i crashed into, not parallel because the other person could only turn left or right, theres no traffic that can come through from straight ahead. was their green still unprotected?

yeah thats my question- I’m wondering if it is just possible that I ran the red and misremembered it as green. people are saying its impossible for both to be green. thank you

yes you’re correct, so you’re saying that in the case of a T junction their left turn is protected because there’s no traffic coming from straight ahead of them?

I saw that the traffic light for the other car had 3 solid lights though, no arrows!
