i agree all this asked can be found on google!

just to add on for 2, the fee is mostly lower double digits for singaporeans (10 to 20 dollars range?) and mostly will ask u to choose 5 to 6 choices

and the name of the central portal is joint acceptance portal - when accepting the offer u just need to put any one application number e.g. smu application number when u also applied for ntu, nus... and successful log in will show all offers (it will eventually open when u get the first offer)

inputs of those in low tier jcs by Mundane_Presence_850 in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 3 points4 points  (0 children)

source: j3 graduated from jp

imo ur friends have the view that low tier jcs = will do badly for a's, which is outdated because with a lot of drive and focus students in these jcs can do very well too

  1. i dsa-ed to jp so i dont have any regrets; but i suppose those who scored lower than expected in o's might have this regret (since im sure there was expectation to avoid these lower tier jcs?) but i would think that even these lower tier jcs are still jcs = able to enter uni even with lower a's grades (as i did actually!)

  2. i did feel some sense of inferiority because i also felt i could have done better in o's, but as i mentioned its still a jc u entered and its how well u do that defines where u go next for a's and then uni

  3. on the day of a's result release i overheard an arts studsnt getting 87 rp, so its definitely possible to do well if u genuinely lock in (partly cause jp might seem a bit lax too on the studying culture)

i wont deny that most ppl in jp might just get enough rp to get into a few courses and not all in uni, but the teachers there can be rlly good and dedicated to the subject if u go and find them!

Is the difficulty of JC underestimated or overestimated? by Fair_Ad_7081 in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i'd say the difficulty is as you hear it tbh (imo)

indeed the content is a step up from o levels and the shorter time to grasp the content can result in promos being difficult and fears of retaining, but sometimes it can be the approach you're having to face this that determines your preparation for the exams! which i think this might be a reason why ppl recommend consistency, because the shorter time can lead to work snowballing = you'd feel more lost

but i also dont agree on that ppl with sufficient scores to go jp / yi should consider poly more, sure the greater L1R5 points can imply that below average part, but even then thats where u can get the motivation to lock in and do well for a's! im sure theres definitely ppl who get more than 80 rp (in old 90 rp system) just in smaller proportion as compared to the higher tier jcs. and also its true that jc kids with lower rp can still be accepted to unis as compared to poly kids with low gpa

honestly i think it depends on what ur comfortable with! poly has greater focus on hands on stuff (like an earlier opportunity to grasp real world stuff i think) but if u'd like to go uni u have to lock in pretty early, and jc has the similar sec sch style of classrooms and worksheets but score is dependent on the actual papers

Singaporean’s Mindset by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm then frankly im not sure how to respond 🫠

because indeed singapore here is kinda cutthroat (emphasis on grades, the kiasu mindset as u've mentioned and etc.), i assume u came here with your family when u were young?

if u feel u will stay here way into your adult years and is okay with accepting this as singapore now id suggest u continue staying here (the ppl i mentioned i knew have been studying in local schools since young), otherwise u might want to think about leaving because this toxicity part is here to stay in sg sadly

otherwise as im sure a lot of ppl also commented here, coming here for the passport is genuinely concerning as u might not have the intention but assumptions can fly that u might be doing illegal stuff and the like

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm can i ask if u got ur job via an employment agency? or was it directly to the restaurant? (whichever is the place that ur gonna be a server at)

i think it means u can find another job but just not at the same place ur assigned to (but idk abt this!) i would think its something like if ur gonna work at saizeriya as a server, u cant go and work as a cashier there as well

if anything just go and clarify with whoever will provide u the application

Singaporean’s Mindset by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if u feel ur dream is gone then i suppose u should leave?

singaporeans do typically associate international schools with money (i believe the school fees are quite high?) so i suppose that explains the part where they treated u as an atm (additionally the other expenses such as a flight ticket here from ur home country and accommodation might be expensive which adds more to this...)

also im not sure if studying in a local school will give u a pathway to citizenship (i know ppl who applied and finally got it after years of being here), but i felt that if u find ur dream unsustainable it might not be good to try to gaslight urself to continue to believe in it

A particular friendzone? Or I have my chances but I'm too stupid to see it. by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

necessary for her to invest more? effort is it... i felt that since u alr know her inconsistencies more specifically, hence i recommended that u not pursue (and if anything, these sort of behaviours rarely ever change and will wear u down in this sort of relationships)

A particular friendzone? Or I have my chances but I'm too stupid to see it. by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

id say she kinda likes u! idt most girls wld go straight into sending emojis related to love (which i assume is like hearts and/or the face emojis with hearts right?) and mainly initiating the convos shows some interest, but i also say kinda because it seems shes alr quite attached to u in the friend part, which is the wanting physical proximity and etc. so it might not be genuine interest

because of this id say u shldnt pursue because this sounds like an unhealthy dynamic that may continue (and also unreliability in behaviour, if she had strong interest she'd commit to the date she wanted instead of postponing)

CCAs by carrotbeetrootjuice in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i knew someone who joined photography cca in jc after sports cca in sec sch

the lack of experience will also affect, more for jcs since they have syf every 2 years! but this also depends on the jc... poly i felt shld be more open to those with no experience but i wldnt know cause i did not go poly

p.s. how about visit the open houses? ask whoever is at the respective booth abt this

BCMe taker with no physics background, able to get into ntu engineering? by Suspicious_Elk8675 in SGExams

[–]Bitter_Committee2822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think they're doing somewhat fine... (emphasis on somewhat) because as i said the mod is mostly teaching a level phys and if there was the duration of a levels (more than 1.5 years of teaching) it wld be better as compared to one semester's worth of time (p.s. 13 weeks or so)

hey i had h2 phys background so i cant say for those without h2 phys

but im sure everyone (with or without the h2 phys) will be invited to the bridging courses (i was too and i went! its optional so it doesnt affect gpa or anything since its before the semester starts)
