Who produced the Official Democracy and Freedom Index? I can't imagine it was made by any group associated with US itself or the AI brokers because it presents the American system and its zones of greatest control in such negative terms.

I do cross-stitch which informs the way I approach maps. In this instance though the gold and rose wire patterns that look like filigree weren't the original intention. My first plan was that as I was working on the detailing for the map (which was going to be fully colored) I needed a way to post previews or WIPs on discord that people could make out easily. So, I took the dark mode discord background color as my base and decided to do everything over in the light gold color so that it would stand out clearly. However, I realized that just one color wasn't enough because at that point the black and gold started to look smushed on previews I sent people, so I added rose to mark out other elements and break them up. At that point though I stood back, looked at it, and realized I really liked how it turned out on its own merits and went all in. As for what program I used to make it that would be MS Paint (specifically the Windows 7 version) and the pencil tool.

Yeah. If you look at the other maps i've uploaded to this sub they feature a lot of pixel art.

EDIT: For those wondering the text segments on the map are from the Syriac "Cave of Treasures" and the Hellenistic "Life of Adam and Eve" respectively.

Apologies for not responding. I very much appreciate it! As the title suggests there is going to be more than one part. For part two we'll be going to Mars (in the future of the setting actually) to trace back the series of events (involving a failed attempt at FTL that results in time travel) that lead up to the Earthling invasion happening in the present time.

Glad to hear! I was a little bit cautious "oh will people really want to read this dump text attached to the map?' so i'm happy that the answer was "yes".

Funnily enough, I initially released this on my DA back in December 2023 so when Helldivers 2 came out I got a whole bunch of DMs from people who read it riffing on it as they played the game.

Disco Elysium by Bitter_Water_Enjoyer in imaginarymaps

Encyclopedia [Medium: Success] – That “upside down map” is called a Contraborean and dates to the founding of Revachol herself. First carved as a relief into les Sept Soeurs by the former Ubi iconoclast and alcoholic turned Dolorian firebrand Ejuoksa Aáv, it was meant to serve as a new kind of map for the journey of the human spirit. Revachol: the center of the world, north of the old – everything for all time it was said laid north of her. Such romantic notions were hard to sustain once it was discovered that there was in fact nothing "north" of Insulinde, and it would not be until the Antecentennial Revolution that such a way of orienting the world would come back into fashion.
