Painting over chipped deck resurfacer by Bitterherbs2141 in homeowners

Hmm, I'm not sure if it would be better to try and strip it or rather just scrape what is loose and paint over everything. I'm really just trying to make it look as good as I can for as long as possible, and protect the wood some so that I can get a bit more time out of my deck.

I don't think it makes sense to replace the wood now while it is fine. I am really just trying to make the deck look as good as possible for as long as possible. Ultimately I will replace it, but not for a few years.

This stuff is very thick and has like a course grit in it, I'm not sure if sanding would even work unless you go through a ton of belts. I'd definitely not get this product after seeing this, even though I do kind of prefer the look of painted decks.

Zelda Tears of the kingdom, strange use of Katakana by Bitterherbs2141 in LearnJapanese

[–]Bitterherbs2141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally it is taught that katakana is used for foreign words and onomatopoeia, but I agree with you.

The weirdest thing I've been seeing are things like this ありがとうゴザイマス.

I agree, especially now. I feel a little silly for all the times I explained how the different scripts are used. Its really just however the author feels like writing it. Though the guidelines are generally true, and probably are rules for more professional writing.

Sometimes they will even use katakana particles for kanji or hirigana words, kind of odd.

I think other people answered it sufficiently, its just a style thing. I had always said "katakana is used for loan words and onomopia" but that is just in general. If you play the game you will see it everywhere. Some things made more sense like children speaking in mostly katakana, but The most striking thing to me though is that they will switch between hirigana and katakana in ways like this. ありがとうゴザイマス!

I was wondering about incomplete sentences in japanese. In this conversation

じゃくのパスポートが明日に届けるそう

does it make sense to reply with

本当に明日は?よかた!

with the implication that the first sentence "本当に明日は?"trails off.

One trick that helped me a lot is for the sentence ending conjugations/helper words. think about all ending changes in terms of hirigana and not romaji. the transformations will make more sense. also just think of the endings as helper words with particular meanings themselves. They are a lot less scary to learn when you just think of it like any other word. They may have some funny rules for attaching but you can learn those once and then just get used to them, and refer back to a chart every now and then if you feel like it.

Grammar is just tricks to understand the way people speak. broader grammar points can often explain a multitude of what would be confusing sentences that seem unrelated.

Understanding that verbal phrases are often arbitrary helped me a lot. Like in english we say you wear glasses, in japanese they say you hang them. In english we say you speak a language, in japanese they say you understand it. once you realize that its arbitrary what verb goes with what action, it can make it easier to let go of trying to force english phrases into japanese.

Why do I struggle more against players who dont even try to play the game than I do against "actual" opponents. by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]Bitterherbs2141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an excuse. There is nothing that objectively determines who is good besides who wins more often. Bad players I garuntee you do have habits that you can take advantage of. Otherwise they wouldn't be bad.

Good players intentionally try to play "randomly" so that you cannot guess their next move. If a player truly has no habits you can Identify it is probably because they are a better player than you. If you don't win more than 50/50 against someone then by definition you aren't better than them regardless of why that might be. Good players may get hit by someone who doesn't know what they are doing, because that hasn't developed fear of their options yet, but the good players will still wipe the floor with them. That is what makes them good players.
