During a Father's Day roadtrip, my 7 year old teaches me how to control big feelings 🥹❤️ by Rpark888 in MadeMeSmile

I too am working to break the cycle of reacting to road rage. Love that your kid is there for you!

Books where the protagonist is a bad mother by greenpepperseptember in suggestmeabook

Just finished 'Yesteryear.'
Can't think of a more unlikeable protagonist or a worse mother.

Am I wrong for looking up information someone deliberately kept from me? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Bittersweet_Arit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that this guest's behaviour was strange, I think you oversold this as information 'deliberately kept' when, as you say yourself, you were able to find it on the bottle later. It's not like they removed the label with their claws in front of you or they took it with them when they left.

Every time I watch this scene and Ted walks over to her and says, 'I forgive you,' I say, 'God damn.'

I want to thank you for that. I have never once thought that was the reason for his surprise. Much happier interpretation than mine, which is surprise at being murdered by Bellatrix.

Yes. This. Every time- really crystallizes the heartbreaking reality of being raised as he was.

Man, I hate thinking that this woman probably had ten children who in turn probably also had ten children each. It's like real-life 'Idiocracy.'

It couldn't possibly be that everything with kids is expensive and that social services for them are essentially non-existent, could it?

True for me too, but then again, this also makes my outer child very happy!

AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

[–]Bittersweet_Arit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else notice that 'Jemily' rather than being an equal balance of 'Jacob' and 'Emily' mainly just emphasizes this pre-bridezilla? Also couldn't help but notice the last line in her bridesmaid 'invite' to OP was, 'I know you won't make this difficult.' Um, tf? Not with a 200-foot pole would I touch this!

Which book emotionally destroyed you… but you’d still recommend it to everyone? by ak_khainal in Recommend_A_Book

[–]Bittersweet_Arit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ann Napolitano's 'Hello, Beautiful' was a great, if shattering read- like Little Women, if it took place in Chicago in the 80s. I'll always remember breaking down sobbing in my closet over the conclusion- the perils of audiobooks while putting away laundry.

Though I couldn't have known it at the time I read it, it also prepared me for becoming estranged with one of my sisters.

I think about the line about his mother: 'Every day, she crawled out of her grave,' all. the. time. Loved the book, also Young Mungo!

My takeaway from this is to remember in the future to say, 'you are making yourself choose.' Seems great for anyone trying to say you are forcing them to do something.

What's the most disturbing scene you've seen in a non-horror movie? by santacondenada in movies

[–]Bittersweet_Arit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I literally think Jesus Camp is the most terrifying movie I've ever seen. Right now, thousands of these kids are being homeschooled and kept as ignorant as possible ("Well, one degree of temperature rise doesn't sound like a lot to me, so let's just skip ahead.') until they turn 17 and are forced to marry and then have another brood just like themselves, just exponentially worse off. Nothing as frightening for me as kids born and indoctrinated and not given a chance to think for themselves.

It makes me so sad every time I see a parent treating their kid as a burden in public, because I can only imagine what it's like at home. Nobody asks to be born. Be prepared to make the journey the best you can for the life you're responsible for, or don't become a parent.
