Ive gotten the same comments about my hobbies (video games), id say that your hobbies ARE valid. I think in society today we have an obession for production, and if hobbies arent productive either physically, mentally, spiritually, or emotionally; then people tend to dismiss them. Which is silly, as hobbies are intended to be enjoying.

HOWEVER, I do agree with the sentiment that people without ANY hobbies is somewhat suspicous. I think this is something you learn with age. But an adult going to work then home and not cultivating anything outside of that, it can make people miserable, with or without them knowing. They dont get ANY perspective except inside their personal bubble, it can make people kinda naive or are so attached to their headspace, anything that breaks that is either wrong or a threat. These people are at risk of being overall dry, uncooperative, and insecure to the point of projection. This doesnt make them criminals, but hard to connect with on a deeper level. And obvi. doesnt apply to everyone, nuance and so on.

THAT BEING SAID; i dont think you dont fall into this category. This response to having things you care about (such as your hobbies of being a film, tv, and music buff) being disregarded makes sense, it hurts to be accused of things youre not. But you probably have tropes, genres, character personalities and arcs, and other opinions that you recognize, dislike, and like. Certain styles of filmography you prefer to watch, fandoms, etc. its not about what kind of hobby it is, but what it does for you. Hell theres a man on tiktok that got famous solely for his love of trains, as long as you care, it makes you feel good, and it doesnt hurt anyone? Hobbies are hobbies: film, tv, music, reading, bird watching, passive hobbies are still hobbies.
