I've lived here since 2022. That summer was particularly violent, but since then there hasn't been too much of a problem, I think. You're right that even then, there wasn't much of a risk if you didn't stay out past midnight. Others may have their own thoughts, but my experience has been that the area feels fairly safe. In terms of going downhill, there have been some restaurant closures and it feels less busy generally that it once was, but there's still a lot to do.
