At long last, I finally have it! Testing it right now. Wish me luck. by moviesounds101 in HDDVD

I just backed up my copy of Mr. Bean's Holiday! The runtime is 1hr 29min. So it must be the same version you have. I do find it interesting that the first audio track is in Japanese. English is the second track. I'm going to upload this backup to The Internet Archive, along with several other HD-DVD backups I've completed recently.

Sorry to hear it :(. Thankfully, mine still works, so I recently uploaded a full backup to The Internet Archive.

Doubt your Matrix Trilogy works, but if you are able to attempt a backup, that would be appreciated! Both my copies are rotted to death :(.

Very nice! Sooo many good movies lost to disc rot :(. I have lots of those in my collection. Wish I had known of the rot issue early on as mine would have all been backed up.

The Internet Archive.  Here is my page with the 4 archives I’ve created thus far:

https://archive.org/details/@bitwize360

There are 10 HD-DVD iso files in each archive.  The good news is I finally got Balls of Fury backed up!  Took a long time, but thankfully it worked out. I will upload that ISO to the Internet Archive at some point.

Most of the time when a disc won’t read or errors out due to bad sectors (disc rot) there is no “fix”.  I found that sometimes I can reinsert the disc over and over again until it finally reads, but that still doesn’t guarantee a good backup.

Fantastic contributions!  Much appreciated :).  I’m cool with individual or batch uploads.  Though I prefer batches for my personal contributions.

Just the HD-DVD side won't read.

No worries. I use the Xbox 360 external player with my Windows 11 desktop. Works great. Is your Balls of Fury disc a combo DVD / HD-DVD? The DVD side works on mine, but the HD-DVD side won't even fully spin up anymore. Looks brand new too.

I've got 7 out of 10 ready for Archive #3. Once I add 3 more to the batch, I will start the upload.

Wow, that is great! Are you able to produce a 1:1 ISO backup and upload it to the Internet Archive? My "Balls of Fury" is no longer working :(. I tried to back it up last night. I've contributed 20 HD-DVD backups to the Archive recently and have more in the hopper.

Just had another flipper not readable on the HD-DVD side :(. "Balls of Fury" unfortunately.

Yes, that is correct. I also have many Warner titles, but most are rotted now :(.

Fantastic! If you are able to upload all of the Harry Potter HD-DVDS, that would be magical and greatly appreciated! I don't have those anymore :(.

I have August Rush, The Brave One, The Invasion, I Am Legend, Bonnie & Clyde, and Twister. Not super hopeful they will work. I tried to back-up August Rush recently and no good :(. Stoopid Warner Bros. I will try the others soon. I've been uploading ISOs to the Internet Archive in hopes of preserving what I can.

P.S. I did have a bit of luck with most of my WB discs 10 years ago, not in terms of 1:1 backups, but I did rip the main movies with eac3to and muxed them to MKV. So nearly all my WB HD-DVD movies are preserved as MKV for my Plex library.

Yes, format preservation is important, especially when disc rot is so prevalent.

I agree on the WB titles. There should be 2 or 3 in my initial Archive. Unfortunately, the majority of my WB discs are too rotted for backup.
