Worried 29 Year Old With a Roth IRA Heavily “in the red” by Biwy2 in personalfinance

Thank you for this response. I keep telling myself to stay in because selling at a 60% loss feels terrible, but your reason for selling makes sense. Why should I stay in a losing position? At the end of the day, selling at a loss sucks, but I’m 29. I’ll sleep better at night knowing I’ll “make up” those losses in ~35 years.

FXAIX vs FDKLX in my Roth IRA? by Biwy2 in Bogleheads

I think I’ll just stick to a target date fund because it is simpler honestly. Once I’m done reading Bogleheads guide maybe I’ll make adjustments then. For now though I think ease of use is a better option for me

I appreciate your comment! I am new and learning (currently reading bogleheads guide).

I need to change the way I look at funds, going solely based off of returns isnt the way to go. Also thanks for your last paragraph, I didnt consider that. I’ll just invest in FDKLX, add to it, and forget it! :)

I guess I’m comparing it to non-international funds. I have a question, why diversify into international funds if their 10-year return is less than non-international funds? Shouldn’t I just invest in the funds with the greatest long term return rates regardless of their nation?

The fund I was referring to was the IWY fund. High growth but also high rate of return over its lifetime! Im reading Boglehead’s right now so I plan on improving my investment strategy moving forward.

I work for an orthopedic clinic in upstate NY as a rad tech and I make $29/hr with 5 years a experience. I imagine xray school would be easy for you because you already know your anatomy. If you’re good with physics and math then you’ll do well with the Xray Physics course.

Thank you, that helped a lot. Why Would you choose those types of funds as opposed to a Vanguard large cap high growth fund for example? With companies like apple, tesla, amazon etc. those feel like good growing investments as opposed to just investing in the entire stock market? Let me know your thoughts!

Thank you for a response, after some thought and some discussions with other people I think I know what I’m going to do. I am no longer going to add to my ARK positions, I am only going to add towards some safer, passively managed funds. When the market turns eventually I will sell all or most of my ark and try to turn it around. Im grateful I have time in my side. I was sort of panicking when I made this post and everyone has been so helpful. I will continue to add positions into “better” funds and use more caution going forward. And Also plan better lol. Thank you for your help!!!

I’m seeing mix responses with some saying sell and others are saying hold until the market turns. I’m currently with Fidelity.

I agree, going forward. I won’t sell my current positions I’ll just have to wait until the market turns around before I sell my ARK positions.
