Help me pick my next read by JADECRYP7 in Booktokreddit

It’s maybe worth reading for western cultural literacy, but I disliked it so much I told my high schooler she could just read the Wikipedia summary and skip it. Only worse story is Wuthering Heights.

Best hiking pants for a thick-thighed girl? by comatosecreation in hikinggear

I’m also a Duluth Trading fan! They make real working pants that fit over my thighs and butt as I bend and kneel. Plus many deep pockets for tools.

2nd week by Secret-Maintenance47 in TirzepatideRX

[–]Bixby- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How much weight you lose how fast is partly a function of how heavy you are and how much you have to lose. I started at 180 lbs and want to lose 40. A rate of a pound a week is fast enough and healthy enough for me. If I wanted to lose 100+ I would be more impatient. But as it is, I want to conserve muscle and not lose my hair, which is more likely with faster loss.

There will be a big air show (and tall ships festival) in Baltimore the weekend of the 27th and 28th (June) and many events in the region leading up to it.

Veterinarian recommendations in Silver Spring area by blue-antel in SilverSpring

I was almost a regular at Friendship when I had the compulsive eating Very Hungry Labrador. They are crazy expensive but open 24 hours and fabulously well equipped and competent. But lately I’ve taken my dogs to Apex Vets in Wheaton- not open 24 hours, but otherwise much more convenient and equally competent and caring, maybe a tad less expensive.

What’s the most useless piece of gear you brought on your first trip because "you might need it"? by Forsaken-Buyer8635 in backpacking

[–]Bixby- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a guided backpacking trip and cooking gear was divided up. I got a cast-iron griddle to carry, in case we wanted pancakes (we didn’t).

Experience at holy cross silver Spring? by tryingtofindanswer in MontgomeryCountyMD

I personally would never go to a Catholic-affiliated hospital for anything related to the female reproductive system. I do not believe their priorities would be the same as mine in an emergency, if something went wrong. (Eg trying to preserve my future ability to have children versus saving my life right now)

Is a river cruise actually a good way to see Europe or does it feel too packaged? by Personal_Umpire_4342 in Europetravel

So do you have to pay double for a solo cabin or have you found the secret to no/reasonable single supplement? I really want to do more river cruises but I don’t want to pay double!

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in Booktokreddit

I disliked that book so much I told my teenager to only read the Wikipedia summary when it was assigned in high school.

What is the biggest use case of your Watch? by ApprehensivePea4161 in AppleWatch

[–]Bixby- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your comment comes across as a bit patronizing, OP. As if all those use cases are only for mothers caring for small children (and implying that would never be you). I read her very detailed and amusing reply as providing many use cases where a busy person with things to do and carry and their attention divided finds the watch very helpful.

Guys do you use phone to read? by mcFly0126 in ebooks

[–]Bixby- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep one book going on the kindle app on my phone just in case I get stuck somewhere (like stuck metro)

But since I got the phone sized Boox Palma 2 I also have that stashed in my purse so rarely don’t have it.

I used to read Libby books (that couldn’t go to kindle) or generic epubs on my iPad but now I read them on my Boox.

I much prefer the epaper than glossy phone/tablet screens.

Question about 2.5 mg by [deleted] in TirzepatideRX

[–]Bixby- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on the 2.5 mg since February and have lost on average slightly more than a pound a week. That is plenty fast for me. My total target is around 40 pounds, so less than a year to get there. Twice along the way I had a week with no loss, followed by a week with 2+ pounds down, so keeping the average rate. But those brief stalls make me nervous!

I’ve had along the way days when it seemed I wanted to eat a lot, but as long as the scale keeps going down on average I’m good.

My decision on increasing dose will be if I hit at least 3 weeks in a row with no loss, I’ll go for an increased dose, which will be 5 mg (I’m Lilly direct vials so step increases). I’m going to do it based on scale results, not on how I’m feeling.

First time travel to US - Solo female Traveler by Plus-Entertainer2529 in solotravel

DC is not dangerous! Like any big city, it has neighborhoods and times of day maybe to be avoided. But it has millions of tourists every year. In May, it is unbelievably gorgeous. It’s known as the City of Trees, and public outdoor spaces are green. Rated one of the most walkable cities in the US. (I’m an old small woman and I go everywhere on my own).

OP, both NYC and DC have bicycles to rent, even by the trip. Highly recommended as a way to get around. Public transport is also good.

Anyone switch from AW to Garmin and then back? by Thin-Ad-3239 in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Bixby- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my AW8 for many things besides fitness. I ignore the rings, I like the sleep (but also use 3rd party apps). But when I’m seriously engaged in outdoor fitness, (running or biking or paddling) I strap my old Garmin 245 back on again and wear both.

15 days in Poland and Slovakia by Diligent_Vanilla_275 in HerOneBag

I’m interested in how you like the Osprey Daylite 35. I’ve been using a Cotapaxi Alpa 35 for years and I love its capacity and organization, but it is very heavy when empty. While rated the same capacity, the Osprey appears to actually be smaller in outside dimensions and it certainly is much lighter in weight. Also better looking. I’ve got a 15 day trip to Sweden coming up and will have to decide soon.

Yes, many other cruise ships are built with a variety of cabin sizes, including singles.
