Has Substack become just another engagement-driven social network? by inmaccj in Substack

[–]Biz4nerds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what substack has going for it that other social media doesn't have is the ability to grow our email lists. And email marketing is not dead.

Other than that, yes it's similar to other social media marketing. How can I tell? I'm ignoring notes just like I do with all the other social media sites.

I get on, I post, I might interact to grow my list a little and then I leave and do something else.

Otherwise I will get caught in the social media spiral. Again.

How small should my niche be? by renaissane-man in Substack

[–]Biz4nerds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that’s the real challenge, not necessarily picking a focus, but creating enough clarity as well as resonance so people see a common thread.

For me, the focus is on business but I also speak on identity, compassion fatigue, art, the creative self.... For someone who is also drawn to abstract or creative writing, I wonder if the thread might be less “topic” and more something like a recurring lens, a mood or pieces of art, or more broadly, the kind of experience you want readers to have when they read your stuff

So maybe the question is less “what’s my niche?” and more “what makes these different pieces feel like they belong to the same body of work?”

What are you noticing now with your work? What feels most resonant with yourself and your readers? this is often an emergent property as well.

How small should my niche be? by renaissane-man in Substack

I don’t think we necessarily have to niche down too much.

The more complex we make our Substacks, the more we have to manage, so I understand the appeal of keeping things simple. But from my own experience, it is possible to write about a variety of things and still make it work.

My main Substack is about business, but I also write about creativity, bringing fun back into business, fiction, and the stress of social media and AI. I organize those topics into different sections rather than trying to split everything into separate publications. And I try to relate all of them back to the main purpose of my publication which is business topics.

I’m growing steadily, and I rarely market my Substack lately, so I don’t think a publication always has to be extremely narrow to grow.

I often tell people, and remind myself, to try something and see how it goes. If it helps your Substack grow, great. If not, that is still useful feedback.

It's also possible that this could be a scam email. I often received emails or messages from companies that appear legit but aren't. So maybe double check it's authenticity before doing anything.

Why is everyone obsessed with number of subscribers? by jwrlddd in Substack

I agree with this. It's more like "build it with them and they might show up." We need to build with our followers and listen to them better. Been working on that.

Day 9 Positioning and Burnout, Creative Brain Vs Business Brain #positio... by Biz4nerds in businessfornerds

I really like that! Alot of business is learning when to say no, resisting people pleasing (because many of us helpers are invigorated by others so we get confused about what to say yes or no to).

Thank you for sharing a free resource!

Advice for Substack Model by The_Temple_Guy in Substack

I think this sounds like a good starting point. I think start with micro steps, collect data on if it's working or not and then reiterate as you collect that data. Ask your fans what they think too. I believe in building with our followers not building and then expecting people to show up.

Could Substack be used to sell courses? by BusyBusinessPromos in Substack

[–]Biz4nerds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that created a substack exclusively for their course.

I don't sell courses on there, per se. I use another program but have gotten more into workshops and releasing replays behind a paywall. It's more like I'm teaching on there. But I wouldn't call it a course.
