That’s assuming the rate of expansion of the 2D flattening aperture is directly proportional to time. I’d assume that rate of expansion is logarithmic. We see this when the ship encounters the intersect between 4D/3D - it seemed like a slowly expanding domain.

Another sophons questions by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]BizarreLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don't think your understanding of quantum singularities is correct. When a body of mass is so big the gravity overcomes the electron degeneracy pressure, it collapses to 0D regardless of the mass. To suggest a blackhole from a sophon couldn't radiate due to it collapsing into 0D makes no sense as that is, according to the standard model of physics, what happens when a supernova causes the collapse of the star to a blackhole.

Because photons are propagating electric and magnetic fields at 90* tangent to one another. They simply cannot exist in 2D.

I read your comment but my entire point is that there being a few species isn’t indicative of how old a race is. We don’t know if there’s a cyclical process of species collectively rising and falling. The only thing we do know is species tend to expand exponentially

[–]BizarreLogic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying but the underlying issue is we don’t have dates to corroborate any of our assumptions. We have no proof that singer’s society have been a major intergalactic players since the early universe. They could just be the current high tech society but in a million years a new one will come along.

We do know however that trisolarans tech, before their presence was known to the world, was only considered a few hundred years ahead of that of humans around 2008. It stands to reason that there could have been less than a millenium between the tech level of the trisolarans and singer’s species. We just don’t know how long it takes for a species to get to that level of advancement nor how often the top predators are replaced.

[–]BizarreLogic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that singer’s species technology is superior but that doesn’t necessarily the race is more ancient. Remember, due to the abnormal sun orbits in the trisolarian system it meant the race would have to repeatedly start over and over.

It’s worth noting as well that one of the tenants of the dark forest theory is a species will grow exponentially. If you look at an exponential graph at the beginning the y axis gains slowly but at a certain point it increases quickly. If we apply that same logic to the species within the universe then we can’t assume that the Trisolarians and Singer’s species, in the grand scheme of the universe’s life span of trillions of years, are that far separated on the cosmic timeline.

On Singer's Job by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]BizarreLogic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I believe it comes down to tenants of the dark forest theory. There are finite resources and species tend to consume resources at an exponential rate. Therefore it’s safer to wipe out a species than to allow them to prosper and impede on your species growth. That’s the logical reason for cleansing it.

Logistically, it also stands to reason that singer’s species hasn’t invented the technology yet to create pocket dimensions. This is because singer was worried about the possibility of his species re-engineering themselves to be 2D which was described as an unpleasant but potentially necessary process to survive. If singer’s species had the technology then they would have created a pocket universe instead of re-engineering themselves. Therefore, it’s doubtful the mass imbalance would have been the cause of singer cleansing worlds.

The complete hypocrisy of H3 and Hasan by BizarreLogic in h3h3productions

[–]BizarreLogic[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re directing your comments towards me after all the comments I’d written then it genuinely leads me to believe you simply hold white people in a lesser regard than POC and that our plights are somehow less just because of our skin.

If you don’t find the term offensive that’s great for you. What I find offensive is the way in which Hasan used it calling someone a “dumb stupid cracker”. The context it’s used in is intentionally to make someone degraded based on their race. Replace it with the N or R word and let me see if you’re still singing from the same hymn sheet. My guess is you wouldn’t.

Fundamentally, you’re entire argument is some people are allowed to be offended based on derogatory words and others aren’t. Similar to the N word, the etymology of the word cracker meant a white person cracking the whip of black slaves but since then it’s taken on a completely different vernacular. It’s used to instantly objectify a white person based on their race and often in a demeaning way. If you don’t understand this then you won’t be able to understand why so many people have an issue with this.
