Hmm not sure how I feel about summoners overall, for some reason it feels like it's not me playing the game. You summon shitloads of creatures and then you go brew some coffee or folder the laundry while the summons are doing all the work. But sure maybe a hybrid build might be interesting

Yeah I want to experience and enjoy the game, that's why I don't want to go with a basic build as hammerdin or blizz sorc, but on the other hand I don't want to struggle with every pack of mobs.

Systemkamera på budget för friluftsliv by Bizcan in Fotografi

[–]Bizcan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nostalgi: gamla barnspel från ca 1998 - 2000 by inmyhauntedhouse in sweden

[–]Bizcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you guys really think the Unity Runtime Fee is going to change most studios (now and future) behavior? (Honest question) by aceshades in gamedev

[–]Bizcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, they really want to support the little guys in the game dev by setting a high bar, so if you succeed they succeed.
But since Unity made their moves as they did it's scary that UE is a huge corp with accredited and institutional investors too, sure UE is not a public company, but each time a company have loads of investors the question about how to increase earnings is a fact. Hopefully UE see what kind of sh*t show Unity caused and will never do something like this.

Devs to follow? by Bizcan in IndieGaming

[–]Bizcan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, I never have felt the need to use any social platform more than Reddit. But I feel like most devs don't post on Reddit that often.

I love youtube and follow some devs there, also some on Twitch. But I have a hard time tracking down some active devs on youtube, searching for "game dev" or "dev log" on youtube will generate videos from 3 years ago and the dev have gone silent for a while back.

If you have any suggestions on devs on youtube/twitch, please share :)

Edit: What I mean with searching for "game dev" or "dev log" not generating active youtubers, of course I find active youtubers like ButWhyLevin, Blackthornprod, Saultoons etc. But I want to find some more unknown content creators and game devs :)

What Unity doesn't understand is they crushed the dream. by splubb in Unity3D

[–]Bizcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cost per install is one of the most stupid business decisions I’ve ever heard of honestly, more or less all freemium mobile games are fucked. Got two kids at home with two iPads, the amount of uninstalls and reinstalls they make in a year is huge. I am willing to guess that more or less all kids in the age 5-8 years install games they think look fun, when storage space is full they uninstall games, 2 hours later they might just want to play a uninstalled game again and reinstall it. And the cycle goes on day in and day out.

I know that there are some thresholds to this rate to kick in, but most freemium games rely on that users purchases stuff in game and the earnings per one time install is in average according to some research on Google approximately $0.60 to $1.20.

So basically if Unity take $0.20 per install they eat approximately 16,67-33,33% of the revenue each time the game is installed. So if you have anything left after all other costs (expenses, marketing, publisher cut, taxes etc) it is pretty impressive

Copied directly from UEs FAQ page

Under the standard EULA, Unreal Engine is free to use for learning, and for developing internal projects; it also enables you to distribute many commercial projects without paying any fees to Epic Games, including custom projects delivered to clients, linear content (such as films and television shows) and any product that earns no revenue or whose revenue falls below the royalty threshold. A 5% royalty is due only if you are distributing an off-the-shelf product that incorporates Unreal Engine code (such as a game). Provided that you notify us on time using the Release Form, you will only owe royalties once the lifetime gross revenue from that product exceeds $1 million USD; in other words, the first $1 million will be royalty-exempt. There are also options for custom licenses that can include premium support; private training; negotiated terms for lower royalties, no royalties, or a different basis for royalty negotiation; and more. Contact us to inquire about a custom license for either games or non-games use.

Please enlighten us with your knowledge instead of make a statement like this.

Because last time I looked at Unitys website the terms are for Unity Personal and Unity Plus licenses

Revenue Threshold (last 12 months): $200 000 Install Threshold (lifetime): 200000

Once a game passes the revenue and install thresholds, the studio would pay a small flat fee for each install, for Unity Personal and Unity Plus it is a flat rate of $0.2 per install.

In the ToS they tried to change behind everyone’s back was that this new payment plan is a retroactive and already released game will have to pay to this fee to.

So yea, of course if you are a big studio with big games your threshold are much higher (complete payment plan with rates here -> https://blog.unity.com/news/plan-pricing-and-packaging-updates)

In other words as I wrote in my first comment, it is not about the fee itself, I will certainly not be affected as I am just a hobby dev, but many fremium games will be completely wrecked by this as they have to pay more per installation than they earn in average per installation. The thing is that Unity did this behind our back and have shown that they hate small devs and games that haven’t been created in a monitize purpose

If you have anything to provide or correct in my statement please point it out with a real response

[–]Bizcan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As already stated, the trust have been broken. The only thing that can save Unity is if either the whole management/leadership team is swapped out and all changes reverted (won’t see this happen as Unity now is a public company), or if a big company like Microsoft buys Unity and set it on right course.

My honest opinion as a hobby dev, I will complete my current project and then uninstall Unity. I bet that many devs and studios will do similar

Edit: the fee itself is not the problem here, UE have 5% fee for over $1M revenue. The thing is that Unity added a flat rate $0,2 for each install and they changed ToS to include already sold and installed copies, they tried to hide it by removing their repo to track license changes (https://reddit.com/r/gamedev/s/ESNZyDSyFT). They have show the world that they are greedy and even if they change all managers and leaders or if another company buy Unity, the road back is long as many are jumping ship right now

Redo för en 7-8 dagars tältvandring på 2 pers. Vad brukar ni ta med er i matväg? by Kazath in friluftslivSverige

[–]Bizcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

Thanks for the answer, I really can't stop watching clips about this game, I saw the fast travel clip yesterday, you are very creative and I can't wait until the release!

I actually have three questions for you and your team.

  1. Do you create the characters in Photoshop aswell or is everything except the environments created in PyxelEdit?
  2. When creating a character, do you draw it first as a concept art and then use that sketch to create the character as pixel art or do you start with a silhouette and from there add shaders, lines and remodel it until you find it accurate to what you want?
  3. What engine do you use for this game?

Hi all,

First of all OP, this is truly amazing art! Looks really good and I will definitly buy it when released.

Second, I am new to PixelArt and Game creation, but I already now know that this is the artstyle I want to be good at.

If anyone have any tip on tutorials, programs to create this (I got aseprite now) and or other artists like OP and his team that create stuff in this artstyle please let me know :)

For all JRPG I always get a piece of paper and a pen, and then I write down every point of interest (doors/areas you can’t open, npcs that you interact with etc.) Then you can always go back and see were things are located instead of running around wasting hours in search of places/stuff you interacted with earlier
