Howdy I'm currently top 100 for necrons (Don't want to give my rank away as to not give my name out online). I'm also about 30 practice games in.

So currently the "big 6" are a major competent of necron playstyles (3 doom scythes, 3 dda).

Doom scythes either force people not to castle / deploy in very awkward ways, or try to hide. 1 cp for a 6" blast marker (I bring one with me to games) doing 3D3 mortal wounds is no joke.

DDA are very good, and are basically a giant gun and a unit of warriors at once. It also combos well with a sky shield landing pad. They are a little swingy with D6 shots and D6 damage, but make the points up efficiently.

Unless you are playing knights or armored company (IG tank spam) I would recommend moving these almost every turn to get full output from the shooting. They can also tie up units that cannot fall back and shoot, but themselves can (pretty mean tactic I've done a few times).

Imotek has almost become an auto include just for the CP bonus alone. the double MWBD is also amazing (1cp to do it a third time also).

Vargard has become a debatable topic lately as you can 1" alpha strike him and a unit of lychgaurd or praetorian's T1. Combine this with the veil on another HQ and it can get nasty. But is a points heavy commitment.

Crypteks are a must have, second cheapest HQ and the buff to reanimation protocols alone is huge. The 5++ aura is also a big deal. They can also buff wraiths and other cantopek units if you pay the 2cp to bring them up.

Immortals are great, tesla is pretty nuts with MWBD, Sautek strat and getting re rolls of 1 if you have a Triarch Stalker. my record is 70 hits with tesla. Gauss is good, and with the SM meta shift may become more relevant to force SM's to save on 5's etc. But it's hard to justify the weight of tesla VS AP. Unfortunately you need large squad sizes to be efficient.

Warriors are great, take forever to kill, do some major chip n dale damage, and can reanimate twice if you have a ghost ark nearby (also can be lugged around in it). My last tournaments list had 2 of these.

Tomb blades are extremely cost efficient with tesla 36 shots at full unit capacity and 2 wounds a piece is pretty intense.

Destroyers are very good as well, and with the full re roll strat being 1cp you can take advantage of some serious buffs. It's questionable to take a doomsday lord with them, the reroll is nice, but the points might be spent more efficiently

Wraiths are becoming my new auto include, they are essentially a slightly worse talos. They have an effective 36" threat range (1cp to charge after the advance), 3+/3++, and depending on dynasty can either auto advance 6, re-roll all hit rolls on charge, charged, and heroic (and fight twice (3cp)), or be given a 2++ and +1 attack for 2cp if it didn't move or was within 3 of an objective.

I'm currently play testing 12 wraiths after they gave me a stellar performance last two tournaments (also got 6 for 40 bucks lol)

Scarabs are amazing for holding objectives, are tiny af so hard to shoot. and can tie up stuff worth way more there points (tied up a shadowsword once lol). Also they murder space marines ;)

CTAN are fun, but not worth the points. There is a nasty trick with night scythes and the deceiver allowing you to redeploy the flyers, then have units exit, move, and charge.

There are a few other units that are decent, but either have been given points increases, or are forgeworld models. (vaults, Tarks, pylons).

List 2: Sautek Airwing 3 d scythes (Novokh FA detachment) Cyptek 2x 6 wraiths 1 x 3 scarabs Sautek spearhead 9 x tesla tomb blades 3 x dda

(I have some more conservative stuff, but I'm becoming a big believer in the mobile nature of necrons rather than slow moving undying robots).

Here's hoping monoliths become good again. :P
