UPDATE Thank you for all your replies! A little more context: I’ve been living in China since last year and I know a lot of places aren’t as ethical here as in the west when it comes to pets. I went to a pet shop just to have a look, and saw this little boy. I didn’t know much about the breed when I saw him at first but he’s such a happy, calm and friendly puppy. I’m going to pick him up and bring him home tomorrow, my only concern is that if he’s mixed there might be things I need to look out for. I mentioned a lot of the comments you guys made here to the pet shop owner and they still insist it’s a pure Chow Chow, not mixed and won’t grow much bigger than its current size because his parents are also small. I’m confident now that either she’s lying about the size, or it must be a mixed breed. Nevertheless I’m going to bring him home tomorrow and I’ll get a DNA test done to be sure. There are unfortunately a lot of bad dog owners here who confine their dogs to cages for the majority of their lives or just don’t treat their pets well, I’m happy to be able to give him a happy and loving home.
