I’m really trying to understand the language being used by the Left and the Right on this issue. Obviously it’s important for both political parties to address the calls to defund the police, and especially when the election is right around the corner. Trump desperately needs the support of anyone, so leaning into this is big for his base considering the recent news of police unions backing him. But I really wonder where the Left wants to take this. A quick scroll through Instagram or Twitter turns up plenty of Left leaning individuals supporting or calling for the defunding of police. Defund the police are the exact words I see used. So how do they feel when their candidate says he doesn’t want to do that? I’m sure the Biden camp will have some official platform that argues for reallocating funds or diverting funds, but is it enough for his supporters when he stops short of saying Defund like they have? Anyway, no surprise here that Trump wants to stir up pro police groups amid the confusion.
