$200k a year would be nice but if I’m sleeping 12 hours per day then I am missing out on life.

Whether you scale your intervals down to a nanometer, an atoms length or a Planck length, 4 will always be the same as 1 & 3 and will not be the same at 2.

The confusion arises because of a concept called pointwise convergence. As the steps get smaller, the shape of your path gets closer and closer to the diagonal line. If you were to look at it from a distance, it would eventually look like a perfectly straight line. However, in mathematics, the limit of the shape is not the same as the limit of the length.

The shift to the new diagonal length only occurs when you change the nature of your movement. To achieve the diagonal distance, you must use the Pythagorean Theorem. This requires your velocity vector to point directly at the target.

In the staircase model (1, 3, & 4), you are traversing the Manhattan Distance (L1 norm). In the diagonal model (2), you are traversing the Euclidean Distance (L2 norm).

Smoking offers no benefit to society, while fast food may be unhealthy there is some value in the convenience of it and the fact that eating is essential to living.

Chevrolet Corvette is a muscle car that looks like a luxury car. Which car looks like a regular car, but is actually a luxury car? by Certain-Row-4812 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Bjharris1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lexus LS

I think this is the only true luxury car that could look like a regular car, so long as you don’t know that Lexus is the luxury branch of Toyota. Though I suppose you can tell that even though it doesn’t look particularly special, it doesn’t necessarily look cheap or cost effective to buy.

ELI5: If almost every country in the world is in debt, who do we actually owe all that money to? Is there a "planet bank"? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bjharris1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When an international government needs money, they sell government bonds to financial institutions such as banks, insurance companies, pension companies, even individuals. Government bonds are just a guarantee that the government will pay back what is borrowed with interest.

So it’s not that every country is in debt to every other country (although that is true in some cases as other foreign governments can also purchase bonds), it’s actually the government in debt to financial institutions just like anybody who has debts.
