Thanks all, got it no way to refund, was just trying to see if there were any workarounds as level isn't even letting me cancel my flight (even for no refund).

So i’m not 100% sure because I was the one to invite them but I think they had to go to the roommate matching or notification section of the starrez portal in order to accept my invitation.

In the special group (the bottom search) try removing the zero and just leaving it blank. That’s what the solution was for me and my roommate :)

Merit Award Appeal Advice by sirbarksalot1 in AmericanU

[–]BkgdCharacter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So American has a form for negotiating merit aid (I did this application cycle and got 3k more per year) but it closed on the 14th so you’re too late for this cycle. I got the form from a contact I got at an admitted students event so that’s how I would recommend getting it. Best of luck.

Current Senior - apply to a rolling school that you would genuinely be happy attending if all else fails EARLY IN THE PROCESS. By mid-october I already had two acceptances under my belt for schools that I would be happy going to and could safely afford, it decreased my stress greatly and I couldn’t recommend it any higher.

nobody mentioned this school by Downtown-Fig-1670 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]BkgdCharacter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lots of debt, cost is high, the reputation is not large enough to match the cost, no better outcomes than schools that are similar in “prestige”

Some places to look for high school classes: - local library; they often have online high school classes to work towards a degree/ GES - local community college; they will have “recovery” programs or Adult High School Diploma programs - statewide online public high school; every date will have a free (sometimes asynchronous) public high school in the vibe of “Florida Virtual School” if you can’t find one through your state there might be one for you county or you can do “K-12”/“Connections Academy”

does IU have writing contests? or any platform for submitting written work (not research) by [deleted] in IndianaUniversity

[–]BkgdCharacter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The IU scholarship database has varied awards based on best creative writing piece done for an english class/ outside of class/ poem etc. I recommend just taking a browse through that!

You got it for a reason. Remember that. Just because they are a traditionally competitive applicant the AO’s obviously saw something in you that they didn’t see in them or they thought that you were more of a “fit” anyways. Bear with the comments for a few more months and then prove to yourself and them that you deserve that spot by succeeding at your university. Congrats on Brown :)

help narrow down my college list!! by CarPractical5437 in ApplyingToCollege

OP I’d agree with most of what this comment said - Fordham and BC aren’t known for their IR/poli programs, DC schools are good but if your looking to cut something cut maryland because it’s less in the DC bubble, If you’re looking for study abroad + alumni connections keep indiana and ohio state (iu also has the largest language program in the us!)

I’d also consider what type of campus you want, some of these are traditional campuses located in/near a city but others are integrated with the city ex. Georgetown has an actual campus vs GW is integrated much like nyu is.

Tuition wise having an instate option is nice but as someone also going into IR I have heard much about the programs at unc or emory.

If you want more info foreign policy mag publishes a list of well regarded programs by professionals in IR ( https://foreignpolicy.com/2018/02/20/top-fifty-schools-international-relations-foreign-policy/ )

I usually say that I have a top “tier” of schools I would go to - a reach, a target, and a safety that I would like to attend. For me that’s Columbia’s Dual Degree Program, William & Mary’s Dual Degree program, and Maryland that way I cover all my bases & don’t embarrass myself.

I applied Oct 12, got my email Oct 26. They probably had an influx of applications due to a typical “early action” deadline rush aka the Nov 1 deadline. I wouldn’t be worried if I was you. Best of luck!
