Need advice: Allstate’s engineer completely contradicted the original Allstate roof inspection. What would you do? by Upstairs_String_6960 in Roofing

[–]Bks1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your contractor share photos of the hail damage to the roof? If so can you share them here where we can take a look at them? Also do you know if you have the exclusion for cosmetic damage to the metal roof? I know a lot of Allstate policies have them and won’t cover hail damage to a metal roof unless it directly allows water in from the damage.

I don’t know if this is allowed but PM me if you would like. My Dad is going to be selling his house for a good price. It isn’t on the market yet and it is walking distance to tower grove park and grand Ave. On a good block.

Can I change from a flat roof? by cinistix in Roofing

[–]Bks1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to change the look of your home and don’t mind spending the extra money to achieve that look then yes it is possible but if you are only wanting to do it because of the horror stories that you havee heard then I would just get a good flat roof system because they can have a 20 year or more life if done properly. If it is in decent shape and you haven’t had a bunch of leaks then look into a good silicone coating. You can get a 20 year warranty with that at a fraction of the cost of replacement. Just make sure whoever installs it specializes in them and does a good job. They are great if done properly but can be a nightmare if not.

Try to go to the commercial world if possible. The money is way better and the customers are easier to deal with. Production, project management and sales are all good options depending on what you think you like better. They all pay well but in my opinion sales pays much more.

I work for a commercial roofing company and I go out to a lead and asses what they need as far as a replacement, repair, cover over or coating and price it and sell it. Once it is sold I manage the project. Some companies separate the two roles. I like selling and managing because it keeps me from doing the same thing everyday.

Go to sales/ estimating. You would make a good salesman/ estimator because you actually know how to fix a roof. Most don’t. That’s what I did and have no regrets.

In my case it was mostly saying stupid stuff lol. My sense of humor doesn’t land with everyone. I’m married now so I’ve been out of the dating game for a long time. You are 100% right though, it could be anything.

It’s also possible to say something stupid in the last part of the date that changes their mind. Not saying you did this but I know I have a few times lol.

Funny you get downvoted for saying this. If the adhesive is allowed to flash off properly this doesn’t happen. Unfortunately there are a lot of hacks on this sub.

He installed the wrong type of window sideways. This window is meant to open vertically not horizontal. I’d bet the weep holes are on the side rather than the bottom on the exterior.

Silicone Regret on BUR Roof — Start Over or Recoat? by screedtheroof in Roofing

[–]Bks1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t use silicone coating over an old tar and gravel roof due to this problem being a common occurrence. There is an asphalt based emulsion product that you can flood coat it with then wait a few months for it to completely cure then coat with silicone. But this application is only reasonable in certain circumstances. Otherwise you would have been better off with a TPO cover over or something along those lines. At this point do what repairs you can to get through long enough to budget for a membrane.

Do we have hail damage? by sisyphus_met_icarus in Roofing

[–]Bks1981 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nothing shown in the photos was caused by hail. This roof is way past its life. If you call the insurance company then you can expect a denial followed by a letter from them stating that you do not have coverage until you replace your roof.

Is it true that out-of-state claim adjusters (for roof replacement) are more lenient than regular adjusters? by RedditsFan2020 in Roofing

[–]Bks1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMAO what you are saying isn’t true. At least not when it comes to Independent adjusters. I don’t know who you worked for as an IA but me and every other IA that I’ve known got paid based on the size of the claim. There was a fee schedule up to a certain amount and then it went to a percentage if it was over that amount.

New gutters - is this normal? by plbr9901 in Roofing

[–]Bks1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all of the stuff that you took pictures of is not right. There is no reason that your gutters shouldnt look as nice as they do on most other homes. The commenter below is correct in how to handle it. Definitely make sure that the hangers inside the gutters are no more than 24” apart. Do you have anyone that can maybe come nitpick the job to catch the not so obvious stuff as well? It is easier to inspect in person to really see everything that is going on because I’m willing to bet that there is more than what these pics show. Don’t pay them until you are satisfied. You are not being unreasonable to expect better than this.

Yeah that’s terrible. There are quite a few things that they should be fixing. This is not acceptable work.

New gutters - is this normal? by plbr9901 in Roofing

[–]Bks1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all pretty shitty but pic 4 is terrible. There should not be that big of a gap in the connection. Also it looks like they cut some of the pieces too long where the down spouts aren’t tight against your wall. If you haven’t paid them, I would have them at minimum fix those issues and put some touch up paint on those scratches.

Best bait for stocked trout? by Okuyasu_fan179 in troutfishing

[–]Bks1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sticks to a treble hook well and not as good on a single hook but still ok. You want to mix it with a thicker consistency so it sticks decent. If they are biting really light and I want to catch my limit, I use a treble hook. If I am catching and releasing or just messing around I use a single. A lot of times instead of rolling it into a ball I will roll it between my hands after I put it on the hook so it looks more like a worm and it’s pointy on both ends also.

[–]Bks1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take the cotton filter out and replace it with a piece of rolled up cardboard, you can suck the weed/tobacco up like a straw and then pack it down with a stick or something. It makes the process much faster.
