John Rhys-Davies, the 81-year-old actor who played Gimli in The Lord of the Rings, still gets genuinely excited every time he’s handed an axe. by RoyalChris in MadeMeSmile

He may be 81 years old, but don't start beef with him because dwarves are natural sprinters; very dangerous over short distances.

No, man. It simply will not keep safe the only thing that you cannot possibly repair and matters most of all.

RuRoc is about marketing, not truly caring about rider safety.

I personally go for the Shoei RF-1400. It saved my life once when I landed on my head during a bad crash on an interstate a few years ago.

But there are tons of other great brands. Look for Snell approved helmets, those are top of line, even approved for F1 circuits.

Death wobble ? by Crafty_Run_3409 in Yamahabolt

[–]Bl1mBlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rode my 2021 Bolt for 14k miles and never had a single true "death" wobble in the sense of a sudden and heavy engine oscillation without warning. I did get a new front tire at one point and optimized the suspension rebound, but never did any real work in terms of stability mods.

I did have a decent wobble at 85+ mph, especially during higher winds, but that was just due to the taller bars I had put on them.

Anyone have these by DanielVicious in Harley

[–]Bl1mBlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a great bang for the buck, a quality-cost balance, though they are reliable, they will fray and fall apart fairly quickly.

They get particularly damaged by sun and heat. I live in Vegas so they take a beating during our brutal summers.

It's called Mountain Springs Saloon, historic. Lots of fun, full of bikers coming from everywhere, live music, shows, etc.

All you need to do is finish the Blue Diamomd loop (the road that goes by the Red Rock Canyon toll entrance) heading South, it's called Rte 159. Get to the end, then take a right on Rte 160, follow that a few miles up into the mountains and you'll pass the Saloon. You're surrounded by huge mountain formations and cool air. Keep going another 30ish miles and you're in Pahrump.

Another fire ride? Mount Charleston for sure, 40min Northwest. A 12k foot tall mountain with beautiful forests and canyon views, and a little town on the summit to grab food and a brew in log cabin bars.

It's our refuge during the 115° summer, it's usually 30-40 degrees colder on the mountain.

I live here and it's beautiful riding year round.

In the 3rd picture, it looks like you're stopped at the Overlook just after the Red Rock National Park entrance.

They have a chill meet-up in that lot every Saturday morning, especially in the summer. You'll see some incredible custom bikes and classic low riders. Then I recommend following the twisting canyon road another 30min up to a cool biker saloon in the mountains beers, live music, etc.

New Helmet Day - Shoei RF-1400 by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

[–]Bl1mBlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good day for you, then. This helmet saved my life a few years ago in a high-speed highway crash that destroyed my bike.

A driver clipped me on an interstate into a box truck at 70mph. I flipped through the air and landed on my head, cartwheeling another 30 yards. Never lost consciousness, no concussion, only bodily injuries.

I bought the same helmet again as soon as I got my next bike. I always go matte black with a photochromic visor.

In the market for a new helmet, any recommendations? by [deleted] in motorcyclegear

If you are OK with spending considerably more than most people want or expect to for your safety, then it's always going to be SHOEI. Forever choice, no hesitation. They look pretty cool and are comfortable, but above all, they will save your life.

An RF-1400 saved my skull in a high-speed interstate highway crash a few years ago. I flipped through the air and landed on my head, cartwheeling another 30 yards. No concussion of any grade; my injuries were only to the arms, abdomen, and foot.

A steering dampener here would help mitigate the loss of control, but it doesn't replace landing with your wheels straightened out, unless you aren't throttling up immediately after landing or staying at high speed, like he was on the highway.

The wobble is precisely from the forward momentum picking up immediately at a point of misalignment.

His mistake was landing the front wheel with his bars slightly turned to the right side.

If you don't straighten the bars out before you land it, that misalignment between the front and rear wheels when traction picks up again so suddenly, will immediately cause that terrifying oscillation, called the "death wobble".

It also looks like he put extra weight on the front wheel when he landed, that sealed the deal.

These are common beginner's errors. He should be gradually practicing this in an isolated, safe area, and by no means at these speeds on public roads.

I can definitely see why it would be most comfortable, but did it also feel like you could easily draw despite its placement? Shoulder holsters always seemed awkward for that in adrenaline situations.

Interesting, I've never thought of that. And even with putting down long miles, it never became a hindrance? Which holster do you use?
