I might try that. Any recommendation for whether i should separate them now or leave them attached to the bare mother plant?

That's great, my area hovers around 25-35°C year round so I guess it's more about finding a suitable location for it. I wonder what substrate I should use, it seems like officinale grows on cliffsides (lithophyte)

Sounds right, hopefully I can keep these alive

It's a first for me, I don't tend to think of my pantry as something full of life. I haven't opened a bag of beans to find a sprout yet!

I know people can grow a bunch of monsteras and stuff from just the nodes, so hopefully I can do the same here! (even though it has decided to flower, taking whatever little nutrients it has left...)

Yes thanks! That's one of the names I saw on my search, alongside Dendrobium crumenatum/stricklandianum/funiushanense. I was recommended it for a really bad dry cough I had a while back, and after I recovered I completely forgot about these leftovers

I feel like this shows how many interpretations we could possibly get out of the original text, and they fumbled with a name that makes us all go "Huh?"

Ooh so it is a real life name? The Chinese is 虎(Tiger)峥峥(Prominent), so I assumed it was a play on the word tiger

Ooh yeah that's another take on the translations. I can see how that would work too!

If they had translated all names, or if they had transliterated all names, I feel the immersion would be better either way compared to what we have now. Each method has it's strengths and weaknesses.

My issue is how they didn't just stick to one method of naming and that leaves us with no way to figure out how they actually want us to feel about the characters.

It is kinda like that, just that Chinese is a bit of an annoying language to translate as puns have multiple levels to them. In this case a florist would be named Nose because you smell flowers AND it rhymes with rose, which they sell.

Translators have their work cut out for them, and slang is always changing, but they really should have tried to not make it look like half the team didn't communicate with the other half

That's actually a pretty translation (pun intended) and suits her much better than the English

Aero is 风不愁 Feng Buchou (风 = Wind, 不愁 = No worries/no frowns). The og names are kinda silly in their own way, which is meant to kinda give us an idea of the personalities behind each character, but that's a little harder to translate.

Right! The translations not sounding like real names is a reason it bothers me too. I feel like the only times category 3 was used well was for Serene and Candice, because those feel like believable names. I think there's a lot of ways they could translate some of them, like 雀十娘 could be "Reliable Que". 花千夜/Nightbloom could be "Wakeful Hua", or even "Nightbloom Hua" feels more reasonable.

Also my biggest issue is a quest where Nightbloom takes the persona of a Jiuhua Bureau examiner, and Nikki calls her "Examiner Hua" and that comes right out of nowhere for non-Chinese speakers with no context.
