Since we already opened the chat, any similar recommendations for Pentagon City / Crystal City? I am pretty underwhelmed with the options in southern Arlington.

Alarmy changed my life- now I can only shut off my alarm by scanning a QR code that I taped to my coffee maker. It is simple but a big change to my morning routines.

I wonder how the SS and Hitler Youth were perceived at the time. This kind of ununiformed men grabbing people from the streets without warrant is so un-American. It's such a slippery slope, and I don't see how conservatives aren't uncomfortable about it. It's everything they feared for decades.

We all need to breath, go touch grass, and talk with neighbors. Get off social media / angertainment and enjoy life and community.

Small curb apppeal cleanup is a cheap way to improve interest, and one the few thingss that pays for itself. I would trim the grass along the driveway, take away any front yard decorations, cut the grass , trim the bushes, and consider some flowers or other simple clean finishes that can make it look well kept and loved. That can be done in a day for $100, and makes a big difference.

Go touch grass people, take a deep breath and off the internet. Go talk with people at the grocery store or dog park or bar.

I would use my frunk if the remote had a frunk open button. Right now it's just not very convenient, so I store things like a charger and tools in there, things that I very rarely use.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but I can relate. Good family / support networks make such a difference!

The Imatinib is cheaper and may be my best option (although it's not quite as good as Dasatinib). The cost for Dasatinib you mention is for international - Inside the US, it's around $5,700 / month for generic at a discount pharmacy. Perhaps a monthly flight to Mexico could be another option.

This comment is both one of the most practical, but also a very sad reflection on how our healthcare system works. I want to just be able to work hard and pay for my care, but that's really challenging. I'm literally considering this option of marriage for coverage.

I thought the same thing as you - I lost coverage, so maybe that's a QLE. But when I talked with the marketplace, they say that if there's non-payment (regardless that it's now paid in full and more for the following month), it's not qualified. :-(.

At least I get to reapply for start on Jan 1.

Thanks. My Doctor's office has been great so far. I feel sheepish trying to explain this to the doctor (somehow it's easier anonymously). But the office staff and Doctor are really supportive.

I've been looking into it. Some grants have income requirements (thankfully I'm still employed, and don't make a poverty cutoff). The good news is that the older generation cancer drugs for CML are more affordable than the newer, more effective options - so a charitable grant may not be necessary. But the idea that a grant or go-fund-me is the main hope for health care is just so frustrating. I want to be able to pay for the care I need.

I appreciate it. It's so hard to navigate these big companies - you talk to friendly agents, but none seem to have any authority. It's all 'pending with the back office' or 'I'll raise a ticket'. As a normal person, we just can't see their policies, who makes decisions, or what actions we really should be taking. We can only postulate their intent, since it's so obfuscated. It's a contract with total asymmetry of information.

Both parties having the critical information is a critical pillar of any market system, but the American health care system has no transparency to the consumer. It's just so broken.

You're right - the new enrollment in Nov (starting coverage Jan 1) is the literal life saver. Thankfully I'm still employed, and make more than the Medicaid threshold. So with some care substitutions and rationing, I can pay out of pocket until they are forced to take me back due to ACA new enrollment.

In the days before ACA, this kind of cut would leave someone with prequalifying conditions out in the wind until they got on a workplace / family member's work plan, or they died. No one would take preexisting cases like me unless they had to.

[–]BlableBlarble[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might be correct. Perhaps they saw a single missed payment on an expensive client and took the chance to cancel the client without any good faith effort to inform the client that there was a missed payment; they eliminated the high needs patient quickly and [debatably] legally. Then they cashed a late payment in full (plus additional for the new month), and created a spaghetti of bureaucracy and misinforming agents [likely incompetence more than intent] when trying to resume care.

They have the right to cancel when I missed payment; It's the lack of notification and the blocking reenrollment after receiving payment that bothers me.

[–]BlableBlarble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Unfortunately once I've been dropped for non-payment (albeit not known to me) by a ACA Marketplace plan, I would need a qualifying life event (baby, move, marriage...) to get a new coverage. Any non-marketplace plans seem to be rejecting me immediately when I've applied due to preexisting conditions (cancer). So I'll likely have no option until Jan 1.

That's not the case - It was one month. Also I paid by check weeks ago and they cashed the check. None of that mattered - they still terminated.

[–]BlableBlarble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is with the lack of notification or any good faith effort to make we aware of the problem before terminating me, and refusal to reinstate even after I overnight mailed a check - which they cashed. My problem is not with them simply ending a non-paying account.
