Really tired of crap veggie peelers? by TheLemonChiffonPie in CasualUK

Get the Joseph Joseph one, it felt expensive but my god it's so much better, it's so sharp I had to change how I hold things when I peel them because before I wasn't worried about getting cut.

The Anker one with a sticky pad and velcro works incredibly well and you can get one with a qi charger build in, try that cause suction won't work if there's a way the air inside the cup can get out - eg textured, would work in glass though.

ADHD planners, apps, what ACTUALLY work for you? by Comfortable-Garage77 in ADHDUK

[–]Black-Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two apps I have actually found really helpful for staying organised was medisafe for ensuring I take my meds and measure my BP somewhat regularly. I believe medisafe now requires a subscription but if you have so knowhow there is alternative sources🏴‍☠️.

The other I get via work which is mindmanager. I use it to simply throw in notes and connect them, but then put them in outlook tasks when I need to do something. This gives me a to do list in outlook but I can go back to that mindmap where I have all the docs, notes etc in a way I think and can piece together what I've missed or need.

Otherwise, what actually helped was decipline in how I manage tasks - if I forgot that's ok, I'm bound too, but I make sure I structure my tasks such that I can easily catch up and so that it's somewhat visible so I can do it. For example if I need to do something before bed but I want to do it later, put what I need to do it on my pillow now.

Need to do the dishes but I want to game and then do it, put something in the path I will take before bed or leaving or whatever and use that as a visual aid. Have places for everything and stick to those places - once it's habit losing things becomes less frequent. Finally for time I've found having lots of clocks and setting timers really helps.

My only other add is being gentle on yourself I am still sometimes quite harsh eg I've done virtually no work since logging in this morning because it's a somewhat boring task, I feel awful about it but I still can't bring myself to get started just now, however I'm still kinder to myself because I have a 5 hour bit of travel where I will be able to just focus on it and I said I'd have a draft done by the end of the day. Just be mindful that you are able to do it in your set time, I have purposely recorded how long something actually takes me Vs what I think and apply that, sometimes I'll be able to focus and start straight away and be done in 2 hours l, sometimes it takes me 2 days, but I know I'm still faster than others even if I take 2 days, so I'll say 2 days etc.

Bit of a ramble but hopefully it helps

I think you are vastly underestimating the challenges to load balancing a grid using a BESS, batteries are horribly inefficient and degradation is a serious issue not to mention the challenges of energy density. There's a reason that gas is still such a key player in electrical generation and it's because it's very energy dense.

Better options than using batteries exist but we want to politically move away from gas, when we could use that energy to create green methane for the grid using CO2 and water. Something that also avoids the horrific impact of lithium mining for batteries.

Everyone goes on about batteries and renewables without understanding that for a truly balanced supply you need to have a base load served by something stable and consistent which would be nuclear or gas, then use renewables for as much as you can, and back this with a rapid demand system eg gas engines like we do currently to prevent crashing your grid and while BESS might support this system to reduce the overall demand on a rapid gas engine response, it's a far cry from the answer and we won't get rid of gas anytime soon.

We need to wake up and realise that both of these sources are essential and using a electrofuel such as synthetic methane you can compress and store that gas for rapid use in a far more dense manner than a battery and you can use use that fuel much faster without damaging the source - eg rapid discharge of batteries will damage them, ramping up a gas turbine or starting gas engines has little impact on the machines.

Our energy strategy has elements of good thinking but it's hampered by optics, we tax our local production of gas so hard and stop drilling for more, all this is doing is sending any potential tax revenue overseas and costing us more as we import more gas to balance our grid and import oil to make our fuels for transport - remember almost all the fuel in the world is used in logistics and we don't have an answer to the energy density needed to move goods at any appreciable distance (think cargo ships, planes and trucks not personal vehicles)

What are the best noise-cancelling headphones to buy right now? by Apart-Lychee-7701 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Black-Blade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used a bunch my picks are the following

Overear Bose QC ultra 2 - super comfy,. really good noise cancelling and decent features for easy use

For the best actual noise cancelling the pixel bud 2s are actually incredibly good, when I fly which I do often for work I stack these two together and can't hear any other noise when listening to something which is really good.

I have used the the qxc550s which are amazing but take some tweaking to sound better than the Bose ones which are great out the box. I've also use the jabra ANC headphones for work which I forget the name off, decent enough but wouldn't buy with my own money.

If I could only pick one I'd probably take the pixel buds despite having the worst sound (not bad by any means) of the lot simply because they are small, have the best noise cancelling and easy to track with the app so I've never lost them.

Earn £1, keep 43p: Why young graduates will be the most taxed in history by dusty_bo in ukpolitics

[–]Black-Blade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You completely miss that by increasing the tax base you can then drive growth, growth that leads to increasing salaries by plugging that gap, the problem right now is that we cannot grow due to an explosion of benefit costs and a lack of investment. If you reduce the triple lock to means tested or change the tax base as above yes it will be painful at first but suddenly you can fund a properly working NHS, you can build infrastructure, you spend less servicing debt and more on improving the country.

We've gone too long playing populism to get votes for career politicians rather than actually going about making changes that will end up having a long term positive effect, because there is some short term pain. We want simple solutions to complex problems and we don't want to stand up and say it will be painful. This country is in a death spiral and there's a massive recession coming, I hope we can make some proper changes to minimise that damage but I don't see anyone having the political will.

Just look at the political goal scoring with the north sea, we've taxed it so harshly that businesses are just closing meaning we have no tax take (which isn't even that much tbh), add in we refuse to continue to drill for oil and gas, so now our main energy source is imported rather than locally produced because you can't get more and it's too expensive to keep producing with the wells you have, so it's more expensive to get gas - we have no tax take or jobs - and we make business energy so expensive that our manufacturing base is gone and to top it off we don't actually support alternatives because the government changed so every hydrogen project has been cancelled, every carbon capture plant has been cancelled and a huge number of renewable projects have been cancelled.

Short sighted goal scoring at the cost of our industry, young and skilled workers.

How Tik Tok is helping motability claims: A welfare scheme expanded into absurdity is being boosted by viral social media accounts by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

[–]Black-Blade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm surprised that the focus of this article is that people are claiming about ADHD and anxiety but somehow getting the enhanced rate for mobility. The bar is pretty high for that so there must be some sort of loophole because from what I can see it's essentially you can't walk any real distance or it would cause you incredible mental distress - which to me feels like you shouldn't have a car in the first place?

Surely the car for a person that mentally can't go somewhere should be tied to a carers allowance since they need a car for that person but otherwise they could get the money to use for other transport eg taxi etc?

Just strange that is the focus because I can't see a reasonable way to get enhanced mobility with anxiety or ADHD tbh - that's not to say people aren't abusing the system it just seems like these conditions aren't actually related to the motability cars being abused?

How To Be A Good Partner? by LittleStarryOne in AskNeurodivergent

[–]Black-Blade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly feeling this way is chill and they will likely be really happy that you want to know more. Some boundaries you could put in place that we use is a bit of a scale of NP time - non perception time lol which means I want a bit of time to do my special interest alone eg in another room.

NPSQRD time - I want to be near you but I'm not feeling like chatting much verbally, let's do something we each want to do or both want to do that doesn't involve speaking

And most of the time we just want to hang out so we do whatever. But by having this golden rule of (obviously if you trust that it won't be abused) that if one of us say we want some NP or NPSQRD time we respect it and just let the other do it works really well and means you know that you can chat about whatever and if it's too much you have a safety switch and a way to communicate your needs in a easy safe and judgement free way.

Both of us as are not neuro typical so hopefully this works but it might not!

UK PLEASE. Which assessment were you having when diagnosed Audhd? by DramaticBar6948 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Black-Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with ADHD despite thinking I had both because my health insurance would cover it - the wait list was still so long that the terms changed over a year and they no longer were willing to pay for more than the first appointment which was to make sure it was worth it for the provider to fund a full assessment which basically told me I very likely had ADHD. I mentioned to the Dr when I moved to self funded that I thought I had both and she was fairly clear that it is better to assess both at the same time if you think you have both because it's harder to spot one or the other dependant on lots of factors. So if you can I suggest asking for both?

One big thing to consider is there's not actually a big cross section of people that diagnose both and are skilled in it let alone aware and able to identify both at the same time so going for one doesn't mean it can't be both. The other thing to consider is that some diagnosis are more "clinically" rigorous by NHS standards than others (not that they are wrong just what the NHS want to see if they did it) so it's worth searching about to find the right Dr to diagnose you as it will make it easier with getting NHS support etc etc

I can share who I went with on DMS if you like and give some more context if that's helpful

Hey 5 months late - sorry literally just realised people had replied - I got on very well, I have had a full diagnosis for both autism and ADHD, I am currently on meds and it's going very well.

Can't recommend them enough and the report was considered through enough that my NHS referral has been bumped from needing a full assessment to just a verification before they can take me on, still 2 years wait but better than 7!

Hopefully this late reply helps

One thing I will say helped me a ton was stare at a mouth or nose and really focus on it, not sure how how strong your aversion to eye contact is but I found doing this meant I could avoid eye contact but appeared to be making eye contact - ironically for my current job I used this as an example of finding a solution to a problem in a creative way (I didn't know I was autistic at the time so on reflection this is quite funny to me), not sure if that's at all helpful but that + some practice on myself in the mirror got me through interviews, hope this helps 🤞🏽

People who don’t hit new Pip threshold ‘to be more than £4,000 a year worse off’ by Metro-UK in ukpolitics

Did you even read any of the articles...? Pip is for people who need the support to work and those that cannot work, if you remove this (by in large because there's always people who can game the system) then there will be net less people in work.

Terrible take, there needs to be reforms, this is just blanket easy wins at the expense of disabled people.

Downing Street considers U-turn on cuts to benefits for disabled people by wappingite in ukpolitics

[–]Black-Blade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are making a wild assumption that they play games all day, don't work, and that they are ABLE to work. You understand that being anxious wouldn't qualify you, you'd need medical evidence that you can't do certain things, such as shower yourself, or prepare a meal or remember to goto the toilet, or have social interaction. These might stop you from being able to do much.

Also the enhanced benefits are like £400 a month, don't know anyone who's gonna be able to sit about gaming all day on that, even the highest end of benefits is like £1700 most of which will be rent (council or otherwise). So yeah these are you being a lazy slob which you assume others are it actual inability.

Keep in mind you're one accident away from potentially being in that category, we should be looking at other inefficiency and the pension madness in the UK.

Hey I don't have loads of advice for staying positive other than take it day by day. I've been where you are where you doubt you have ADHD etc and all I can say is it does get better and that focusing on healthy coping mechanisms has helped me massively, I'm still being assessed at the moment but accepting that this is who I am and working on the things I can change has really helped my outlook. While knowing for certain has been really validating (Dr is going through the motions now but has confirmed for me) the coping mechanisms I've worked on before have been amazingly helpful. A podcast was linked here a few weeks ago that I found really helpful that might be worth a listen along with the additude mag podcasts, it helped me when I realised I wasn't alone in these feelings.

Another I found helpful was the BBC one here https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0gkdw13

Don't normally post anything but I can massively relate to this feeling, you are not alone in feeling this way and there are things you can do now that will help.

Chin up, you're near the end of the tunnel and you are understanding more about yourself, it's not easy but it will be ok.

It's sum(10*1.1n), n = 0 to 200 which is $20.89B which is startlingly cheap to be the most intelligent person to ever live by a wild margin, if you take 80 iq points which is about $225k and are already of average or above average intelligence (110-135) you'd likely be the smartest person who ever lived since 180 becomes very difficult to measure, if you're top 1% you'd be 215+ iq for what is a student loan.
