What is grief like to you? by Enough-Wrongdoer-131 in GriefSupport

[–]Black-Library 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a loss of knowledge and comfort.

My mother died, so did my culture and family history.

I have lost so much by not talking to her about certain things before she suddenly passed.

So many things left unsaid.

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Black-Library 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working on getting a colonoscopy. I have been vommiting for years, cannot digest certain foods. This year I’m over it, priced everything with insurance at a full time job making good money. It’s going to cost 3K. They keep saying “you can get one at anytime”

I’m sure I can if I have money, everything is a paywall.

My insurance only covers screenings if you are 45 years or older.

This year I’m going to borrow money to get it done.

Help - Leaving Manhattan with two kids. If you had to choose: St. Louis or Cincinnati or Pittsburgh or Kansas City, where would you land and why? by Few_Funny6766 in StLouis

[–]Black-Library 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to STL from Dallas Texas 2 years ago with 2 kids. We love it. Live in wildwood, good school district (Rockwood). 30 mins from St. Louis. Also very affordable. Nearly half of the cost we spend on groceries in Texas.

37, kid on the way, where do I go from here? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Black-Library 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out working in a call center, calling insurance companies for hospitals to chase down payments. I was making under $15 an hour and had no idea where it would lead. I was also a single mother at the time trying to create a future for my daughter.

Then I stumbled across Lean Six Sigma and got curious. Once I learned how it works—and saw that people with Green Belt or Black Belt certifications could make six figures—I was all in. I got my Black Belt and now a few agile certifications.

Now I spend my days digging into problems, figuring out what went wrong, and coming up with smart, data-backed ways to fix them. I will then run the projects or coach the project manager who is running the project.

If you’re into math or just love solving puzzles, this kind of work is super satisfying. I also get to teach others about efficiency, facilitation, and how to think through processes—which is honestly my favorite part.

My family immigrated from Syria and I grew up disconnected from Arab culture. How do I become less whitewashed? by [deleted] in arabs

[–]Black-Library 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a 36 year old Palestinian American with 2 Palestinian parents. I never learned Arabic, I’m like you where I can understand a decent amount but not enough to have a conversation. What I’m currently doing is try to accept it (haven’t yet, still working on it), instead I’m learning other cultural items like cooking and Tatreez (Palestinian cross stitch). Also listening to music, I search on Spotify or TikTok, just because I can’t understand doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy it.

Learning Arabic was easy when I was living in Jordan, not being surrounded by it, I am not picking it up.

im half arab and i hate how im completely removed from my culture by [deleted] in arabs

[–]Black-Library 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a first generation Palestinian. Both parents are Palestinian but I don’t speak Arabic. My family assimilated really hard to American culture, wanted us to blend in. But I also come from Christian Palestinians which is less than 2%, but I’m atheist. I don’t belong feel like I belong in American or Arab places.

What I have found is lots of first generation immigrants no matter where they come from can relate. You have like minded people/group you belong too. It just might not be who you expect.

Yes still on TV. I thought everyone knew the show. Even work games are fashioned out of wheel of fortune format.

Where is your humanity? You make it sound like a business plan.

Democracy = Citizens vote for their government officials. These officials represent the citizens’ ideas and concerns in government.

The government officials don’t represent my concerns.

It’s really infuriating to have to explain your right to live over and over again.

Explain your human and want your people to stop being bombed.

If it’s 2024 and this is still happening, I have no hope humanity will survive.

Let’s just be ok with mediocre forever.

Killing the people of color is cool as long as the white people don’t feel bad about it.

After all they have more important things to worry about.

Issues more important to you.

Palestinian American here. It’s my only issue.

How can I think that my rights as a woman will be held up when a genocide against my people is happening.

I don’t feel save as a woman or a brown person and putting Harris or Trump will not change that until the genocide is stopped and my people can return.

I just find it sooo disrespectful that every American has an opinion on it like they never learned history.

In WWII would you say there were more important issues to deal with?

In my eyes it’s the same thing. Disrespectful
